Lung Cancer

As the little boy cried in the corner
He lit up another cigarette,
Inhaling deeply,
And tears streamed down his face.
Lung cancer was calming.

The girl tried to comfort him,
But she couldn’t.
She would’ve given the world to make him better,
But that was impossible.
That’s all she wanted to do,
To make him better,
To heal his wounds,
But, again, it was impossible.
He just continued sobbing in the corner,
Taking one more drag of his cigarette.
Lung cancer was calming.

And she knew it was his outlet,
So she didn’t nag him about smoking any longer.
Lung cancer was calming.

His heart was once again broken.
And he couldn’t fix it with tape this time.
So he fixed it with nicotine.
Lung cancer was calming.

The girl did all she could.
She hugged him tightly and nuzzled into his shoulder
And he just breathed in the love for the world.
Lung cancer was calming.

That was all anyone could ever do
About anything.
So he put out the cigarette.
And he took out another,
Taking his lighter to it.
He breathed out the hate.
Lung cancer is calming.
