happiness

blue, blue, green, blue-green

and my smear of brown

they float and glide so easily

as i struggle so hard not to drown

-

their golden, sunny lives

slobbered in suburban perfection

my closet comes from the reject bin

while theirs – jacob connection

-

crisp salads and the freshest fruit

fill their picky plates

while I starve on tasteless bread

thawed on an icy grate

-

their pretty pink polished nails

make my bitten ones look even worse

my patched pocket that shelters my coins

are no match for someone’s gucci purse

-

bubbles of false laughter float down the hall

as my murky sigh drops to the floor

i try to be content with what I’ve got

as the rich brats beg for more

-

“iPod! trip to spain! day at the spa!”

their whiny moans thump to the ground

and i smirk with unusual glee

for i’ve something they’ve never found

as they consider happiness a rarity
