I look around and see myself halted;

No movement at all,

Within a vast plain,

Spread out before me.

I look around me and see others bounding;

To great destinations;

To great futures;

On roads I would never take;

On wings I would never trust.

I look around me and see others slipping;

Their wings breaking from the strain;

Their paths corroding beneath thier feet;

Unaware of the danger they face.

What I see around me

Has cast upon my soul Hope and dismay;

Hope for my future, for if there were those

Who tried and succeded, what chance do I have?

Dismay for my future, for if there were those

Who tried and were defeated, what chance do I have?

Why can I not take that leap of faith;

Why can I not trust that solid road;

what is it that holds me behind?

The fear of failure?

Or the fear of success?

I look around me and see my future;

Still standing here,

Still watching as the world goes by,

Pondering that first step.
