A/N: Yes, I’ve finally gotten to the writing step! I’ve been carefully planning this for weeks! The story really moves forward in the next chapter but I decided to do a bit of refreshing here both for those who have read the other stories and for those who didn’t. First, the summary…

Summary: Ted, Zeke and Tom are asked by a mysterious woman called “Eve” to do a number of dangerous missions. Meanwhile, Katrin’s half-alien daughter disappears a week after birth. When Sheena, Gina and Marina are kidnapped Katrin and Fin suspect this new woman may be involved somehow…

Prologue: Katrin’s Ambition

--

Previously, on Our Family Matters II…

-

“How long have you been lying next to me?” I asked Katrin the next morning.

“As soon as you fell asleep,” She replied. “It’s funny: for some reason being this close to you helped my energy not only fully recover to increase. “You know, my entire family is biracial.” said Katrin. “My dad said he didn’t want to have all of his children to look the same and it’s probably why he turned to bigamy. The upside is we recently found out the entire female half of the family inherited awesome psychic powers.”

“That sounds a lot like my father,” I replied. “My father took a Member of the Pisces Clan for his Queen though I have brothers and sisters from every Clan on Kyomora. If you visit, perhaps I will introduce you to them.” “I’d like that, Midas.” She replied as we locked eyes. In that moment, I found myself preparing to procreate with an Earth Woman.

“Would you like to see what I really look like?” I asked her. “Yes.” She replied.

-

Imagine my surprise seeing a large Lion in the backyard with Katrin. “I didn’t know they let you take something home from the Safari.” I said out loud to get her attention.

“Oh, Tom!” She exclaimed. “I didn’t hear you open the gate. Are you alone?”

“Of course,” I replied. “O-K…” I said. “I can see I just interrupted what would normally be a crime against nature. Seeing as such is not that case, I think I’ll take the hose into the shed.”

“Actually, we were just leaving.” She replied. “I’m taking Midas with me back to New York.”

“Does your father know about this?” I asked with a slight bit of concern.

“Of course.” She replied. “See you later!”

-

“I wonder where Katrin is…?” asked Midas as we looked around the house.

“That note said she was down here but someone altered it or something.” I replied. “Wait, let’s check the bathroom.”

“Who’s there?” asked the person on the other side of the door.

“Only me and your brother, Fin.” Midas replied. “Would you refuse us a moment of your time?” After the lock was turned I opened the door and let Midas in first. The floor was arrayed with blankets and pillows, meaning Katrin must have been sleeping. After entering the bathroom I closed the door. When I looked at my twin sister, I was shocked at what I was seeing.

“What are you staring at?” she asked.

“Katrin, you’re pregnant!” I exclaimed. “You didn’t look like that a few hours ago!”

“Oh!” She exclaimed in a similar fashion as the three of us stared at her belly. “We had sex but that was a few days ago. Why do I look like this?”

“This baby is half Kyomorian and half-human.” I replied as I felt the baby growing inside Katrin. “Still, human gestation is nine months…”

--

A few days after The Shattered Girl…

“Katrin, why did you bring me here?” I asked as we now stood on the Planet Kyomora. “You could have come alone, you know!”

“Yeah, but I wanted you to meet your nephew.” She replied with a grin. “You’re the only one who hasn’t seen him yet.”

“Maybe, but I thought Midas agreed it would be best to wait until the war going on here was ended?”

“Don’t worry too much.” She replied dismissively. “You have the Astra Bands so you’ll be fine.” We walked through several streets and at last arrived at the Palace. Seeing us, the guards granted us entry. I followed Katrin through the halls until at last we came to what had been made Katrin and Talen’s Chambers.

It was more Talen’s than hers but Midas had it prepared for when she came over. Upon seeing him I could not believe he was less than a year old. He looked like he could pass for ten. “Mother, you’re here!” he exclaimed when he saw us.

“I brought your uncle Fin to meet you as well.” She replied as they shared a hug. “Where is your father?”

“He had to leave for the front lines yesterday.” Talen replied. “No one knows for how long either.”

“I wonder about that…” she trailed. “I think it’s time I used a trick Mom showed me.”

“What trick?” I asked.

“Just hold my hand.” She replied as she put hers on Talen’s shoulders. “And hang on.” Right after saying that I saw the palace walls vanish and get replaced with a war tent several miles away.

“Where are we?” asked Talen.

“Your father’s tent.” Katrin replied. “I traced his energy signature and teleported us here. That drained a lot more than flying did so I’ll ask him to help me restore it.” As soon as we stepped out of the tent we were face to face with Prince Midas himself.

“This is a surprise!” he exclaimed. “To what pleasure do I owe a visit from you, my dear?”

“I need to talk to you alone for a second.” She said as she yanked him into the tent with her. “Fin, don’t let Talen wander anywhere.”

--

As soon as we were inside Katrin threw me on the bed and started to undress. “I know this is sudden for you Midas but I need another baby.” She said. “I want you to get me pregnant again.”

“Then your wish is my command.” I replied as I unbuckled my armor.

--

Hours later the two emerged from the tent. Even though they said nothing I knew what they had done. Before it was an accident but this time I knew Katrin purposely got herself pregnant.

“Time for us to get back.” She said to Talen. “Your grandfather the King is no doubt worried sick.”

“Nice to see you again, dad.” Talen said before we teleported back. As soon as Talen was safe Katrin grabbed me by the arm and dragged me back to the Space Bridge. This was when I’d had enough.

“What is wrong with you?” I asked her. “Why did you make me come if all you wanted was to get pregnant? I got Gina pregnant but I didn’t need you there for that!”

“This is different, Fin.” She replied. “You and Gina are ordinary folks with an ordinary relationship. That can’t be said for me and Midas. We live on different planets for pity’s sake.”

“What does this have to do with me?” I asked, not sure if I really wanted to know.

“I need to tell you something about me not even Mom and Dad know.” She said. “I’m sure you felt it too since we’re twins. When I became pregnant with Talen something happened to me. I don’t know what it was but it changed me somehow. Now all I want to do is have more and more children.”

“I still don’t get where I fit into this.” I said.

“Fin, I need to stay with you and Gina until I give birth.” She said. “There’s no way I can keep this a secret in New York. You saw what happened before—it’ll be only a few weeks.”

“I’m still saying no.” I replied. “One pregnant hormonal woman is already a lot to handle!”

“Oh!” she cried out as she grabbed her stomach in pain.

“What is it?” I asked with concern.

“Relax, this happened before.” She said. “Midas’ DNA and mine are creating a new creature inside me.”

--

“I sure hope you know what you’re doing.” Fin said when we arrived at his home in Little Rock. “Gina’s due in 6 weeks and when she finds out you’re pregnant again she’s not going to take it lightly.”

“You worry too much.” I replied. “Besides, I’m due in half that time. Aren’t you the least bit curious of why I’m pregnant for so short a time while your wife is pregnant for 40 weeks?”

“I’m more interested in knowing exactly what you’re having.” He said. “And if you are indeed my sister anymore.”

“Of course I’m your sister!” I exclaimed. “I may have gone through some changes but I still am and always will be.”

“Alright, fine.” He said. “But only until you have the baby.”

--

14 days later Katrin looked like she was 7 months in. I had to admit it aroused my curiosity quite a bit. The only sign of the alien pregnancy that showed was the deep blue blood vessels that covered her belly. Those were only visible at night when her belly glowed orange, which was now at least three times a day.

The stress of the unnatural pregnancy reared itself at least twice a day when Katrin would experience searing pain for several minutes. After Gina saw it happen she wanted her to see a doctor but we both refused. “There’s no telling how a doctor would react when they find out what she’s carrying.” I said. “Though, to be honest we don’t know ourselves…”

“Am I in any danger?” Gina asked me one night as Katrin slept. “I am pregnant with a human child, after all and have good reason to be concerned.”

“If this was her first time doing this I’d say yes.” I replied. “I also made it quite clear she wasn’t staying if it would put you in danger.”

“I still can’t believe she’s nearly 3 weeks in.” said Gina with a sign. “In the time it took me to get this far in 8 months she did it in 3 weeks.”

“Well…Katrin is different.” I replied. “Both me and her, I should say. It’s not everyday you could say your husband can life and throw a plane like it was made of paper.”

“That is true.” She said with a laugh. “And to think you get it from your parents.”

“I think it’s about time to call it a night.” I said as we walked upstairs. “I promised Katrin I’d go with her to her New York home for an Ultrasound. It seems Celes left the stuff from when she was there in the basement.”

“Mind if I come, too?” Gina asked. “I have no desire to stay here all day.”

“It’s fine with me.” I replied. “I’m going to check on Katrin but you go on ahead.”

“Fin!” I heard Katrin suddenly exclaim. I opened the door and turned on the light with Gina right behind me. “It’s happening again!” She threw back the covers and we could see her belly glowing under her shirt.

--

“What’s happening?” asked Fin.

“I don’t know.” I replied as I clutched my stomach in pain. “It hurts so much more this time! It feels like it’s ripping up my insides!”

“Are you in labor?” asked Gina.

“It’s too soon for that!” I exclaimed as I got out of the bed. “It’s something else.”

“What are you doing?” asked Fin with concern. “Maybe you should lie down”.

“We’re going now.” I said as I walked over to him. “I need to know what’s growing inside me.”

“Wait!” Gina exclaimed. In the next moment all three of us were standing in the basement of my Brooklyn house.

“How did you come with us?” I asked Gina.

“I willed it.” Fin replied. “I think she has a right to come along, seeing as it is our home you’re living in.”

“Oh!” I yelped as the pain intensified. I then felt my belly starting to grow. I could hear the child within stretching out as it grew in size. Fin and Gina could only watch in shock, as they didn’t see when my belly grew before. Whatever was inside me was growing faster than Talen did. When it stopped my belly glowed deeply.

“Katrin…” Gina trailed as I lifted my shirt. The child inside me curdled and kicked.

“Go ahead.” I said to her. “Touch it. It can’t bite.” She looked at me before reaching out a hand cautiously. “I’ll even touch yours if it’ll make you feel better.” I coaxed. When she finally put her hand on my belly the child reacted by kicking more than before.

“It’s so cool.” She said. “I’ve never seen anything like it.”

--

We went into the exam room where Katrin lay down on the bed. I pulled over an ultrasound and applied the gel. “It’s time to find out what he or she looks like.” I said as I applied the instrument and turned the machine on. First we could hear the heartbeat and then we saw what was growing.

“Something’s different…” Katrin said. “Talen didn’t look like that.” I could only watch silently as the machine picked up new sounds--Multiple heartbeats.

“What is it, Fin?” Gina asked me.

“Katrin, there’s something you should know.” I said.

“What is it?” She asked. “What’s wrong with my baby?”

Babies would be the correct term.” I replied. “You’re carrying a litter.” Both her and Gina looked at the screen in shock I pointed out eight developing fetuses growing inside her womb. We then looked at her belly again, which was starting to glow and make strange sounds again.

--

“What have I done…” I trailed as I looked at the screen. “I only wanted one baby and I’m having eight...”

“It looks like they’re fine.” Fin said reassuringly. “They’re all growing at the same time and there are no abnormalities from what I can tell.”

“Eight babies are an abnormality.” I replied. “A few months ago, Celes removed 24 fetuses from a woman who had a cancerous ovary. The father may be from another planet but there should only be one baby in there!”

“I don’t know what to tell you.” He said as I sat up. “Still Katrin, this is simply amazing…”

“I need to be along for awhile.” I said as I took off my shirt.

“We could go if you prefer.” Said Gina.

“I would feel better if I left this room.” I replied as I opened the door.

“Well, ok.” Fin said before I closed the door. I went up the stairs, holding the rail with one hand and my belly with the other. I looked around and saw the house was very quiet. Lena, Shaun and the girls were probably sleeping. Not wanting to disturb them I went into the living room and curled up in a corner with both hands on my belly, which was glowing again.

“I don’t know what you are but you’re seven more than I wanted.” I said as I looked at the light they were emitting. “When you’re born I’m sending seven of you to live with your father and big brother. I hope I don’t sound like I don’t love all of you but eight at once is just too much for me to handle. I love you all so much I could never get rid of you.”

That’s when I felt it. It sounded like paper but I knew what it was. The skin around my navel split open, causing the light to pour into the room. I looked in and saw all the babies were not only alive but full-term. One by one they emerged from the opening and crawled on the floor with no sign of the umbilical cords. I could only watch in surprise. When all but one came out I looked and saw that it was not yet active.

The other seven glowing newborns crawled across the room but then collapsed in exhaustion, the effort too much. I put my hand over the opening and hummed the Song of Restoration to heal the wound. I then rounded up the others and knocked on the basement door. When Fin came up he was surprised at what he was seeing.

“They’re here already?” He asked.

“Seven of them, anyway.” I said, motioning to my belly which now held the last baby. “Let’s take them to Kyomora before Shaun and Myra hear us.”

--

I know, you’re thinking “Sci-Fi!” But there’s a mystery and Katrin, her unborn baby, Fin and Gina are part of it. Next will be Chapter 1, where it all begins…
