By the Angry Sea

Your blessed words skirt along through the air
Carried by breezes like rose petals, pollen, and dust—
Dancing on gusts of wind without a care;
But carried without trust—

Like the hollow sound of a foghorn through swirling skies
Over seas and rivers, with ripples of waves;
Ephemerally beautiful lies—
Mask the screams of the ones who couldn’t be saved—

Who drowned in the darkest waters of the murkiest bay—
Their ghosts follow me across waters and—
Then they dance away;
To meet those words of whispered death across beaches’ sands;

They’re buried by those sands with each wave rolling in
The birds have flown on your heavy hatred;
Carried to me crimson sin—
And on the beach, alone, with whipping winds I have waited

At the edge of a cliff that dives down to the deep
Evil, wicked whispers of torturous love
Call out through the wind, roaring while I weep;
To fall down from the sky; crush me from above

And standing at the edge of this most angry sea—
The wounds are all too ragged to be cured;
I wasn’t your Juliet, nor your Annabel Lee—
For I found my deep darkness in your sinfully enchanting words!
