“Ok, tell me again. You’re my what?”
“Your guardian angel. The one Gabe sent when he realized what a screwed up loser he is.” Veronica replied with a sigh.
“And Krys, my best friend the girl I tell everything, is some demon keeping an eye on me to make sure… of what exactly?”
“Krystal Morse is making sure that you are more…” veronica paused “likely to go to the demon side of things.”
“But I-i’m not… actually I’m not real sure… I’m kind of confused and I don’t… oh god… Krys is a demon, I’m married to a demon…” Riley trailed off.
The sound of the garage door opening jerked Veronica’s head up and she moved towards the door. She grabbed her things and looked at Riley.
“Listen, If Adrian doesn’t take you down to the underworld, of your own free will, in around 2 weeks then the mate bind will be void. So try to keep away from him, especially in one-on-one situations. If the demons get you…” she shuddered, “After two weeks and you haven’t chosen the demons, your angel side will emerge and the end of days will begin.”
She took one final glance at Riley and walked out the front door. Leaving Riley staring at the space she just vacated. She sat on the couch slowly breathing, letting it all soak in. It all was floating around in her brain…
“Riley…” Matt’s voice broke into her thoughts. Riley looked up at him and he looked like he had been crying.
“Kelley’s dead.” Riley swore her heart stopped.
“What? Why? Who?”
“The cops are leaning towards murder… and that it happened sometime around lunch.”
“Do they know anything else?”
“Just who she was seen last with.”
“Who?”
“Our new man of mystery, Adrian Night.”
Riley froze in her seat. This had to be a coincidence… He didn’t kill anyone. He couldn’t have.. ‘yes he could have, he’s a demon remember?’ the sane logical side of her brain told her.
“I have to talk to Krystal.” Riley said and ran up the stairs to her room. Only to remember who Krystal is. ‘Shit’ she thought, and picked up the phone anyway.
“Hello?” as usual Krystal answered on the first ring.
“Hey its me, Riley.”
“I recognized your voice, silly. What’s up?”
Riley breathed deeply, it was hard not asking her why she didn’t tell her she was a demon… but it had to wait.
“Kelley Field is dead.”
“Finally, I always knew that bitch deserved to bite it.” Riley was shocked at the cold voice of her best friend.
“Nobody deserves to die, Krissie.” Krystal blessed under her breath
“Hey, Ri, I was just kidding. So who killed her?”
“Cops think it’s my favorite stalker, Adrian.” Krystal’s eyes widened.
“Uh.. sorry Riley but I got to motor… Hot date for tonight, I have to get ready and all.”
“You never told me about a date…” Riley said and Krystal cut her off.
“Sorry, talk to you later babe.” And flipped her cell phone shut.
Riley stared at her phone and set it down on her charger.
Krystal threw her phone across the room.
“Shit!” She yelled but that didn’t even cover it. If The Prince kept this up he was never going to get Riley to go home with him in two weeks! She stormed out of her house and sped away in her car. Meanwhile Riley sat on her bed and cried.
