Wake

I am standing in the middle of a field, surrounded by millions of people.
We are all happy, all smiling.
Then I wake from my dream to a world of cruelty and war.
There is little peace and love in this world,
it was sucked dry a long time ago.

I wake in the trenches,
to the sound of bombs being dropped over head,
and the sound of gunfire ripping open the nights air full of death.

I wake in side a concentration camp,
cold and hungry.
There is the smell of death and illness.
People all around me are crying from hunger and fear.

I wake to the sound of a siren
as another ambulance rushes down the street
to where a car is crumpled,
wrapped around a tree,
as yet another teenager becomes a road death statistic

I wake to the sound of my parents fighting,
yelling and screaming at each other.

I wake cold and lonely in a side street,
wishing I had a home to go to

I wake in a small unknown village
in what seems to be a forgotten country.
My parents are dead,
and there is no food for me to give to my siblings

I wake in a hospital bed
the nurse besides me tells me that I was beaten,
by my homophobic father when he discovered
just who I am.

I wake in front of the tv,
as the news shows yet another car bombing,
killing many, and I wish for a time without war,
without hate, anger and death.

I wish everyone else would wake up to the world
and realise what is going on.

I wish they'd all wake up
and do something to stop this.
