Does it symbolize something, a story

Locked in a tomb, out of sight?

How, and why, did that person die?

What was his life's story?

Did that soldier fight for a noble cause

Or merely risk his life for a mistake?

The flag at the heart of this country

Fluttering softly in a breeze

But from where did that wind come?

Does it ripple the cloth with a hidden scent of blood?

Why are those people dying now?

Are they spreading freedom or lies?

Democracy and tyranny are getting mixed up

In this tangled web of illusions

The flag in the citizen's front lawn

A spotlight illuminating it in the night

Does it show his patriotism

Or ignorant belief in his leader?
