Author's Note: This piece was written to express what I'm going through right now. It's also inspired by "My Reply" (The Ataris) and "Learn To Be Lonely" (The Phantom of the Opera movie soundtrack). Both songs accurately sum up what I'm feeling now, but to music.

Dark Phoenix Rising

An ocean of loneliness, threatening to engulf
Outcast from a pack, the wolf runs, the tiger's eyes glow in a fire
The Dark Star is eclipsed, only a faint light in a crowd
Dark phoenix rising, born from ashes of a masquerade

A deep dark edge looms before, why not fall?
What is left for the Dark Star, but a broken psyche?
So run, run, run from the sounds of a shattered soul
Dark phoenix rising, born from a young girl's broken heart

They pass the Dark Star, never looking past the facade
It's all a mask, a lie that everything is all right
You can fool the world, but at night, who will see that faint light?
Dark Phoenix, fly away so free from the pain that created you

Tiger's eyes, wolf's howl, Phoenix's wings; Dark Star
Created from the ashes of a cold fire, an Unfeeling Universe
A society and pack of peers that will never accept you
Your only instinct is to flee, because if you run far enough
The Dark Star will be able to escape this pain

Dark Phoenix rising, continue the masquerade
But abandon all hope of a rescue, for who will
Ever see or save-the Dark Star?
