Sticky-tape dreams

The wall is plastered with pictures
so many that even she
can't tell what colour the wall is
(though she suspects it's the same drab cream as the rest of the house)

Pictures--
of impossibly blue skies and never ending smiles,
of perfect sunsets and evergreen trees
with no worries in sight
(all cut out from magazines, sticky taped together to form distant dreams)

And she looks up at them
wondering what its like
to be in a world
where the sun always shines
and there are no tears
(Where no one tells you to keep dreaming because life's not really like that)
