Harsh Sympathy

You’ve heard and seen them whispering about you
In the hallways, the labryinth of corriders
Your ears have finally been opened
The dark crow in your soul pushing you out of its borders

You’ve finally hit realization, eh?
You’ve had your fun, your games
Now it’s time look on back
Go on, turn your head in shame.

Time to visit a hall of mirrors,
Take a different perspective, a different point of view
Then maybe you’ll see yourself
And why you’re not respected
You can’t deny it’s long overdue

As we reach our destination --the all telling mirrors--,
I know very well that look of horror on your face
A shaking hand tracing the features you now barely recognize
I see those tremors in your shoulders—
Your posture of disgrace

I hate causing you this pain
Though a painful lesson here needs to be learned
These mirrors aren’t the funhouse kind or twisted
That’s one thing you need not concern.

You’ve finally dropped your last disguise
You’ve exposed your soul, the crow
Although some places it would represent love and devotion
Here it represents filth and lack of self control

The lines on your face look like a roadmap;
Where you’ve been and where you’ve gone
Your blue eyes turn grey as your sky turns to ash-
It played out all along.

Your last cry, your last excuse I see, is
"Do not look upon me with scorn because I am dark
The sun has only tanned me."

But the sun was your pride
And that pride tanned- no burnt your soul
And not just with profanity

You’ve lost your chances, it's imprinted itself permanently on your looks
Eyes still hardened like the soul crow’s sharp talons
Your jet black hair like its wings
It’s time to leave this place
Go on,
Pack up your things
(We won't make it a challenge)

‘Cause we don’t want you here anymore
We’ve seen both sides of you, inside and out
And we don’t have the patience left to forgive you
I’m sorry—I know it hurts.

The lines on your face look like a roadmap;
Where you’ve been and where you’ve gone
But if you find something good along the way
That isn’t fake, is in place
Those lines can be redrawn

And please remember
To look at a mirror every so often without pride or vanity
So you won’t lose your way
Please remember
That if you do so,
You’ll find your place someday.

You’re on your own now...
