That You Eat Flesh and I Do Not
-
You hate us for this -
That we mask our hearts in anger towards you,
In judgement.
And for it, you judge us.
I will say this now, that which I have never said before:
I fear you.
With your deeds, you break my heart,
But more than that, you fill me with fear;
The betrayal that you do to them -
Would you do it to me too?
If I never know, how can I trust you?
You shake me to the core
And empty me of tears
So if I ever seem to be judging you,
It is only because I cannot bear to let you close;
You hurt me too much for that.
And now I bear my soul before you -
The irony, the irony…
But know this:
…it is a plea.
It is an undisguised plea for your compassion.
If you don’t do it for them, do it for me.
Have mercy, I beg you,
Because my soul is heavy
I am weak
And I cannot carry this burden alone.
