She stood there on the dance floor
Looking for the man she loved.
She was in the most beautiful dress
She could ever think of.

Her eyes searched the room
While she held onto something tightly.
She prayed that he’d like her gift
It took her hours for her to fix.

Her heart pounded
As she slowly waited
It was half past ten
He should’ve been here by then.

She walked across the room and smiled.
There he was with his messy brown hair
His back was turned
And all she could do was stare.

Her smile quickly turned into a frown
When she saw someone else further down.
She grabbed his shoulder and saw who it was,
It was another girl, prettier than she was.

Lipstick was all over his face
And he told her that he could explain.
She ran far away from that place
As tears streamed down with pain.

The boy watched as she left the scene
And wondered why he had been so mean.
He looked at the ground
And was surprised with what he found.

There laying on the floor
Was the gift he had broken earlier before.
It was a silver locket in the shape of a heart
He opened it up, and with that his heart tore apart.
