The truth of the matter was: Philippe was beautiful. His wildness, his dancing and his grace. The way his lips formed the words, low and intense as he found books that were in languages not native to his. Truthfully, Blaise could find himself falling in love with him. He could find himself entirely obsessed with him, with the curve of his lips and the tilt of his eyes.

Some days, he would come home and find Philippe dancing through the kitchen, his head tilted back ecstatically, with his newly colored hair across his face, his arms tossed out, his chest heaving. Sweat ran slow and sweet down his back and shoulders, dotting his face with the shining dots of perspiration. At those times, he always left, always backed off to let him be whatever he wanted to be.

Other days, Philippe wouldn’t leave his room except for classes. He wouldn’t even leave for eating. Blaise would simply put a small tray out of the doorway and hope that he would eat periodically. When he came out again, Philippe looked peaceful, like a priest after meditation.

He was interesting, he was beautiful; he could laugh and hold a conversation. Everything he did was peppered with color and wit.

Truthfully, Philippe was beautiful. Truthfully, he could fall in love with him.
