Painful Memories
-All Riled Up-
A/N: Hello. Most people put author notes at the end… is this bad? –looks sheepish- Oh well. I’m special. I worked hard on this story, so I hope you enjoy it. Kajitsu.

A little girl stood in the middle of the room. Wet at the corners of her eyes from crying and shaking, she was drenched with sweat. Her eyes looked around anxiously. Where were they? She was told they were coming. She knew it. She could smell them miles off. It was just a matter of when. When were they coming? Her breath started coming out in short breaths. Why was this happening? She heard a snap from a couple miles away and knew it. They were here.
The little girl ran to the closet, like she was told. She locked it from the inside. Listening in fear as the door was pounded upon, then kicked open, she started silently crying. Many things have happened, but nothing like this. Nothing like this at all. The footsteps went upstairs. Voices. Yelling. Screams. Silence.
The silence scared her most of all.
She waited. She heard more footsteps going back downstairs. A few rustles from the kitchen – they were going through their stuff – and then laughter and jeering. After a few minutes, they finally left. The little girl waited until she couldn’t hear them anymore; they must have been miles away. She then went upstairs. Her whole body told her not to go. But she had to. She had to find out. Her whole body screamed for her to turn around and act like nothing happened. To never go upstairs again. Just leave it. But she couldn’t. She had to.
She stopped short. There in the hallway. They couldn’t have been. They wouldn’t. She stared in horror at the crimson puddle on the floor. No…
Then she stared at the source of the crimson pool. Nooo…no no no no…
NOOOOOOOOO!
She listened to her own hysteric screams.
Then everything turned black. Black… with unmistakable red blotches smeared all over.

“Beep beep. Beep beep beep. Beep beep beep.
Today is a nice day, with a sprinkle of rain at 3:00 p.m. It would be a good day for an afternoon picnic. Huh, Jake?
Yeah, Jim. But I’d rather be at a radical party at the beach. Surf’s up dudes! The tide is high today… big waves al a mode! Yeah, dude!
That’s our Jake. (Sigh) Now, we go to Shirley to get the weeks forecast. Shir—?"
“SHUT UP!”
Under a pile of covers came a hand that banged on the source of sound until it was quiet. Next popped up a head, with blonde, kind of curly hair down to her butt. Two cat-like ears protruded from her head and four whiskers, two on each side of the nose, could be seen. Her eyes where a mix between a human’s and a cat’s. Her eye color was an unusual purple. But, now, you could hardly see those ‘unnatural’ eyes because they were half closed.
“Why in the world is my alarm clock set! It’s SATURDAY!”
She grumpily got up and went into the bathroom. Stupid alarm clock. Whenever she was awoken, she usually couldn’t get back to sleep. That’s just how she was. She was different. She wasn’t like them. Humans. In some ways she was. Not in most way, though. But she still loved them. They were apart of her. She’d grown used to living a normal live where no one knew her to be half demon. Not even her closest friends. Only… Motoku-kun knew. Yes. Maybe she was finally excepting that she was different. Maybe she could finally put the past to rest. Maybe she could forget. Maybe…

“Look at the wench! She has EARS!”
“Weird! She’s gotta be a freak.”
“Well, duh. She even has whiskers! Hah!”
“Well, I dunno. I think she’s kinda cute. I like cats.”
“Feh. LOOK at her. She’s not a cat. She’s not even human. She’s an IT.”
“You think she’ll attack us?”
“I don’t know… but just to be sure I think we should attack first… ya know?”
“I agree!”
“Yes!”
“Let’s get her!”
A little girl about the age of four looked at the boys with fearful purple eyes. They widened as one of the boys picked her up by the front of her dress.
“Look, guys. She’s scared!”
Two other boys replied with laughter. The other boy stood back a ways, looking on with doubt.
“I… I d-don’t t-think she wants to hurt us…”
The three others looked at the boy in disbelief.
“Akiso… what are you saying? She’s not one of us. LOOK at her! She’s a freak. A monster.” He shoved the girl towards the boy named Akiso and she fell face first in front of him, causing smirks and snickers among the others. The supposed ‘leader’ of the group who threw her came up behind her and stepped on her tail, causing an involuntary yelp. With the boy on her tail she couldn’t escape. She looked at Akiso with pleading and knowing eyes. Then she closed them, and braced herself for the pain.
“C’mon, this is your chance to prove yourself to us. Just beat her. She’s so pathetic, she won’t even feel it.”
“W-why d-do you g-guys h-hate me? Just ‘cause I l-look different?” the little one stammered uncomfortably.
“Ok, ok. You saw right through us. You’re a demon wench. Get used to it. No one will get used to you. No HUMAN will ever except you. Get used to it. That’s how your life will always be.” The leader looked at the one named Akiso. “C’mon, it’s meatloaf at my house tonight. I don’t wanna miss that. Hurry it along.”
Akiso stepped up to the little girl on the floor. “Sorry,” he whispered, barely audible. With that he struck her on her face.
The other three boys looked up at their leader. He nodded his head, which was supposedly some kind of sign.
“Mommy… daddy… help me…” the girl whimpered as the boys approached her.
“Now, remember, you’re trash, demon,” The leader hissed with anger. “You’ll always be different. Always rejected. Don’t forget this… never forget this… this is only a taste of what’s to come for you, wench. Just a taste…”

The blonde head walked into the bathroom sleep still engulfing her. She shut her eyes for a couple minutes, but she was afraid if she kept them closed much longer, she would slump against the sink mirror and let sleep overwhelm her. The teen rubbed her temple. She was NOT a morning person. Not one bit. Especially irritated because she was woken up, she patted her hair down and smoothed something that felt suspiciously like ears, all the while with her eyes closed. Huh? ‘Ears? No, the medicine…’ she thought groggily. She couldn’t bring her eyes to open yet. Finally she opened them and brought her eyes down to find her toothbrush and hairbrush. She rummaged through the bottom of the sink to find them. When she brought her eyes back up to the mirror, she looked at herself. She started to unconsciously straighten her whiskers. Her eyes widened as her eyes went from her ears, and back down to her whiskers, then back up to her ears.
“Wait…” she said aloud to herself in thought. “ Motoku-kun gave me medicine to get rid of those… oh my god, this is FUCKING GREAT!”
The girl shrieked. She couldn’t let anyone see that she was half cat. She wasn’t sure how she came to have them herself, but she knew she couldn’t let anyone see her ears or tail or whiskers. She took a special medicine to get rid of all of them so no one could see them. The medicine usually lasted a month at the least. But, this time the medicine had failed. It had, for some reason, only worked for a week before they grew back. Her ears twitched in frustration. ‘Just great,’ she thought. ‘I wake up early on a Saturday, then the cat-be-gone medicine doesn’t work.’
She was not the one to cuss, but usually when she was pissed, she would occasionally throw in a couple. It was her way of venting herself of her frustration. She took a deep breath to calm her nerves. But, as usual, that didn’t work.
“MOTOKU! MOTOKUUU! MOTOKU!” the girl shouted in anger. “ARRRRG! Get YOUR SORRY ASS—“
“Nnn…?”
A door opened and a groggy looking guy of about nineteen came out of the room across from the bathroom. His eyes were half open as he stared at the floor and scratched at the back of his head. He had maroon hair down to the middle of his back, but it was a bit messy due to him just getting up. The boy had bangs ranging in length, the one’s in the middle the shortest – only reaching his eyes – and the longest on the outside reaching his ears. . He was wearing boxers, and he had a muscle tee on. A maroon tail, the same shade as his hair, hung out of the top of the back of his boxers. It hung limply, indicating the nineteen-year-old’s tiredness.
“I thought I might be in trouble based on the shriek, but I shrugged it off because I was tired,” he mumbled a bit accusingly.
The girl glared at him from where she was standing in the bathroom. His eyes widened a bit, and despite of the glare he was getting, he put on a seductive grin. His eyes stared straight into hers as he walked slowly to the bathroom and stood behind the blonde. They both stared into the mirror at their reflection. Then he wrapped his arms around her neck and rested his head on her shoulder.
She shuddered involuntarily. She hated when he did this! He knew she hated it, and also knew that she knew that he was sexy. He used these two facts to his advantage a lot. The girl had found him awhile back, and it turned out he was also seeking out her. They both were different, not quite demon, not quite human. They had grown to be friends, and fought spirits together. At home, whenever she needed help, he was there. Whenever she needed breakfast, he was there. He was a great cook and cleaner. She sucked at all this. All in all, he was a good ‘find’, as she always says. Motoku had a slightly perverted mind, especially when it came to her. She was beautiful.
He took some time out of the morning to look appreciatively at her curves and her long, long blonde hair. She had the softest hair he’d ever felt. He saw that she had her ears back, and her tail, AND her whiskers. Yes, that was probably why he was in trouble. He noticed she wasn’t quite in her true form yet, so at least the medicine didn’t fail completely. For now, he just wanted to have some fun with her, and maybe in the process, distract her. He wrapped her long hair around him before whispering into her ear.
“Someone’s a grumpy girl this morning.”
She blushed at his closeness. He’s always doing this! They’ve been together for a long time, and were very good friends. She didn’t love him as a mate, nor did he love her as a mate. They were just close friends. He loved to flirt with her, however. He found it very enjoyable when they were close.
“Mo-Motoku…”
“Kisa.”
“Moto… Gah! Motoku-kuun! You know I don’t like it when you tease me!”
“Sorry darling.” he said playfully as he kissed the nape of her neck and let her go.
“Erm… now… why did I want you…”
“Beacause I’m sexy.” He said seductively.
“Motoku…” Kisa said in a warning voice.
He gave a chuckle. “Sorry my dear. Very sorry.”
She turned back toward the mirror and gasped.
“Ahhhhh! Oh my…kami!”
“Kisa?” Motoku questioned, knowing she probably glanced her ears and whiskers in the mirror.
'Damn mirror.'
“I remember… LOOK AT ME!” she screeched.
“Hmm? You look as pretty as ever darling.”
She blushed at this comment, but blundered on.
“No, no! Look at my head! My EARS! My WHISKERS!”
The girl paused for a moment.
“Yes?”
“And… and… my tail!” Kisa said lamely.
Motoku chuckled for a few seconds, realizing his good friend meant him no physical harm.
“Well, Kisa dear, at least-“
“At least what! It was supposed to work for at least a month! Hmm… what were you going to say? At least aliens didn’t come take over the world and take me in as an experiment, Seeing as I’m half demon, and study me!”
“No, no, Kisa-“
“And at least no one has actually saw me yet and determined me a freak because I have EARS! Oh, and at least…”
Motoku stared at her, and after realizing two things; One. She’s a hopeless case. Two. It was also hopeless to interrupt her during one of her rants. stared out into space thinking of the last two “special ones” of this Earth. He was talking about both him and Kisa. The specific word that people used to call them was ‘hanyous’. Half demons. It was good for him that he didn’t have any obvious things that signaled he was ‘different’ except his hair color and his eye color. Oh, and his maroon tail. But he could hide that with pants. His thoughts wondered to the lack of demons on Earth. He didn’t think there were any demons left.
He and Kisa fought off spirits… not demons. It was pretty thrilling, but he at times would dream of fighting demons. A demon slayer – like Buffy! That would be wicked. With Kisa in the tight leather pants and-
Ahem.
Anyways, for the time being, he would settle with fighting spirits. They usually weren’t life threatening, even when they were strong, they would always defeat them with a few scrapes and bruises at the most. One time Kisa had gotten stabbed through the stomach. That was horrible. He was nearly sick with worry. But, she healed. Hanyou’s always healed faster because of their half demon side. That was one nasty wound…
Motoku also thought about his older brother. He was a year older than him, also a hanyou. Oddly, though, his older brother disappeared one day. It was strange, yes. It was a long time ago, but he couldn’t help it. His brother was the closest thing to a family he used to have. They used to live in their own apartment secluded from humans, until his parents were killed. They seemed to know they were going to be killed. Which angered him sometimes. Why didn’t they save themselves? Before they were killed, they told him to seek out his own kind. Also, a few hours before they were killed, his older brother had disappeared. It shocked him for a while, causing him to delay “seeking out his own kind”. After the shock wore off, he hesitantly said goodbye for the last time and set out. He was only five at the time, but he had good hanyou instincts and senses. After wandering for a while, careful to hide his tail, his senses found Kisa.
She was so broken up. They both had helped each other at the time.
“… have a television! Is that what you were gonna say? Huh? Huh?!”
Motoku shook his head, bringing him back from his thoughts. After rubbing his eyes, he was about to tell her what he was going to say before, about her not being all the way in her hanyou state, when he noticed she was.
Uh-oh.
“Uhm. That’s not what I was going to say.”
Thank Kami she was turned away from the mirror-
“Wait… something feels different.” Her eyes traveled up to the ceiling, crossing her eyes to look at her bangs. “And why do I see purple?”
'Hmm. I feel another rant coming on.'
“Motoku! You said the medicine would work! You said so, Motoku! Now I’m all hanyou!”
Motoku stared at her for a few minutes. She looked more beautiful now, if that was possible. Her hair had grown even longer and turned from a light blonde into a dark purple. It was now straight and down to her ankles. He… wow. Why was he having this tight feeling in his stomach?
“It has worked until now! What went wrong? Motoku… Motoku! What did you do to it? Did you do something? Huh? Answer-“
“You look beautiful Kisa! You’re just so beautiful in hanyou form. If the boss doesn’t call us to exterminate, you wanna, you know, do stuff?” he interrupted, winking at her suggestively, even going as far as to trail his hand down her arm.
He took a step closer, and all thoughts of the rant disappeared. Her eyes dropped down, and she blushed, noticing he was wearing nothing but boxers. How the hell did his shirt get off…? Seeing her eyes drop, and her cheeks evident with pink, he decided to tease her a bit.
“Oh, that.”
“Mo-Mo-Motoku… get dressed!”
“Hmm. You know, if you want me to, I can take it off. Then I’d have nothing on, ya know.”
With this she blushed ferociously.
“Nnn… Motoku! You’re teasing again!”
“Who said I was teasing?” Motoku moved his hands to the elastic of his boxers and started to adjust them lower. His tail, which was hanging out of his boxers, flicked upwards, showing his owner’s amusement and delight.
“Kyaaaaa! Motoku! NO!”
“Awww, Kisa.” Motoku said, a seductive pout on his face. “C’mon.”
“Gah! Motoku!”
“Oh… Kisa… I get it! Why didn’t you say something?”
“H-huh?”
Motoku moved closer to her, and dragged her out into the hallway and into his room and shut the door.
“Hey… hey! Wait!”
“You just coulda told me that you wanted to do it yourself!”
“Wha-“
Motoku took her hands and put them on the top of his boxers and put her thumbs on the inside of the elastic.
“See? Now you can take them off!”
Kisa just stared at where his hands where and where her hands were and reddened so her face looked like a tomato.
“Err… uhh… err.”
She couldn’t seem to push out comprehendible sentences…
Motoku just raised an eyebrow and looked at her in amusement.
‘Wow, look at his body. It’s so built. His biceps and his abdomen are so… so… beautiful. And I bet what’s under his boxers is more beautiful… whoa… what did I just say?!’
“Gah! Gah! Gah!”
“Nya?”
Kisa, still blushing, drew her hands away and pushed him to his bed. He fell back, a surprised look on his face.
“Wow, Kisa, I never knew you could be so… forceful!”
God, she hated how anything she did or said now, when twisted around by him, sounded so… dirty.
“You… you… you-!”
“Me?”
“Stay! And think about a way to make me look all human again!”
Motoku watched, sitting up on his elbows, as she walked toward the door and tried to open it, noticing it was locked. She made an impatient noise, then unlocked it and glanced back at him. She glared at him - which would make any man cower in fear, but of course he was used to it - then slammed the door.
“Damn, she’s hot when she’s mad,” Motoku whispered to himself, knowing full well she could hear him with her hanyou hearing – especially in her full state.
Eh, it didn’t matter much.
“Why, you- you- you!” he heard her shriek from the kitchen. Then he heard a hissing like sound.
“Yeah, yeah. I know I’m so intimidating. But you love me.”
He smiled as he heard another cat-like hiss and the slam of a cabinet.
Man, he loved when he riled her up like this. It filled him with a sense of satisfaction.
