In My Heart
By: Lauren
The wind blows,
Rustling the leaves
Swirling around me
As I stand alone,
Why must we be apart?
You are in my heart
The crunching of cold snow and grass beneath my feet
With every step, the sound resonates through the air
All about me are rows
Down, down, as far as the eye can go
Granite, marble, metal
All of them had to depart,
You are in my heart
Engraved names, dates, sayings
All lose their meaning
There is nothing there but a feeling
Lost in the still, morning air
Flowers decaying and frozen
Everything falls, everything parts
You are in my heart
Years are beginning to pass
Empty hallways
I thought you’d be here always
A metal name plate
That isn’t you
You aren’t in there
You are in the air, in the flowers, in all that surrounds me
And although it may seem as if you are gone
You aren’t
In me you have imprinted your love, given to me, you impart
You are always, always, in my heart
