Okay, so I had to imagine what my lit teacher did over Holiday Break as a creative writing project. The requirements were that we had to use our imagination, have 11 point font, and 1 1/2 spacing. Oh yeh, and it had to be 34 pages long. Because I'm a really nice girl, I decided to split it up into a few parts.
My lit teacher is Mr. Cheli, but I just call him Cheli. He has a daughter named Bella who is about 2 years old. Well, I guess that's all the background info I can give you. Enjoy!
What Cheli Did
and how Bella created Earth, Perfectlandia was abandon, and the freshman learned
Over Holiday Break
A teen sat at her computer, alternating her confused eyes from her notebook to the empty word document in front of her. Slowly, she placed her hands on the keys, took a deep breath, and began to type. And all thinking stopped.
Once upon a time…
‘No, no, NO!’ she thought to herself, ‘there has to be a better beginning than this!’ And so she started thinking again. She paced the room, muttering “once upon a time”. After muttering for a long time, she turned back to her computer and smiled. “Once upon a time” was cliché, average, and rather corny, but it somehow fit. Perhaps this would be a fairy tale after all…
Once upon a time, in a far off land called Perfectlandia, there lived a teacher named Cheli and his daughter Bella. Perfectlandia was, well, perfect. It was all white picket fences, cheery smiles, and eternal peace. Bella liked Perfectlandia- there were butterflies, candy, and plenty of love to go around. Cheli, on the other hand, thought Perfectlandia was just nice. There was nothing truly unique about it- it was just nice. The hot chocolate was always nice and cold, there was always a hot ice burning in the stove, and a bit of fire to put in your drink to keep you cold on a hot day. All the nice random objects could talk and say nice things, and if you lost one you could just call our for it, and it would nicely call for you until you found it and nicely put it back in its proper position.
It was a nice night in Perfectlandia, the first night of winter break. Cheli and Bella, as well as her blanket and stuffed turtle, sat by the warm, glowing ice with their nice, cold hot chocolate. At the sight of this chocolaty delight, Bella squealed with joy, laughing, clapping her hands, and swinging her legs off the end of the couch. Her hands eagerly reached out for a mug and she cried, “Pweez pweez PWEEZ!”
“Alright,” said Cheli, laughing as he handed her a mug, “it’s really cold, so be-” Bella ignored his warnings and immediately took a sip, causing her tongue to freeze. “-careful,” said, Cheli, finishing his useless warning.
“Ah?” asked Bella, surprised by the coldness. It was then that she realized her tongue froze. “Ah!” she cried, sticking out her tongue and crossing her eyes to try to survey the damage.
“You silly bean!” laughed Cheli as he watched her trying to see her tongue. “I tried to warn you!”
“Eyes coob pweez!”
“Okay, I’ll go get some ice cubes to heat up our drinks.” Cheli walked to the kitchen and pulled out a few ice cubes from the oven. He came back, plopped the ice in their drinks, and waited for it to melt. The two sat quietly sipping while a Disney movie played in the background. By the time the movie finished, they were fast asleep.
‘Okay, now what?’ asked the teen. They were sleeping, for gosh sakes! The only thing you do while you’re sleeping is snore, drool, and dream. The third thing sounded most sophisticated, so the teen decided to run with it.
Cheli and Bella awoke in a dream. They found themselves in a vast whiteness that stretched on for miles and miles, if miles could even possibly exist in this white abyss of nothingness. There was truly nothing there except Bella and Cheli. No doors, no windows, no walls, no floor, no ceiling, no hot chocolate, no blanket, and no stuffed turtle.
“Daddy?” asked Bella.
“I don’t know where we are, Bella,” said Cheli, turning around in a circle. “There’s absolutely nothing here.”
“No tur-tle n no ot chocolit n no bankit!” she grumbled.
“On the bright side, there are no limits,” suggested Cheli, trying to be optimistic.
“Tur-tle n chocolit n bankit!” she grumbled again, crossing her arms this time.
“Shall we go look for them?” Bella nodded her head eagerly. “Then let’s go!”
The two continued on their journey, hand-in-hand, calling out, and “Turtle! Hot chocolate! Blanket!” until their voices were hoarse. Bella was sad that these valuable possessions didn’t call back- they always called back at home in Perfectlandia. But to Bella, the whiteness was rather intriguing. You could do everything in nothingness! Cartwheel, play tag, jump around, run about…the possibilities were endless. Soon Bella forgot all about the sorrows involved in losing her belongings and had bliss fun in the nothingness. Cheli sometimes joked that Bella ran on Energizer batteries, but after awhile the batteries would run out. When they did, Bella was laughing on the ground and Cheli went to tickle her stomach when he noticed her eyes were closed and her thumb was in her mouth. He picked her up and she rested her little head in the crook of his neck, her lips in a half-smile as if she was dreaming in the dream they were already having. Or was it a dream…?
Never the less, Cheli walked on, hoping that the blanket, stuffed turtle, and hot chocolate would come in earshot so they could go home and continue their nice lives in Perfectlandia. Cheli was getting tired himself and was about to sit for a spell when he noticed a speck in the distance. The speck, although minute, was visible in the white surroundings. Cheli eagerly picked up his pace, rather excited, but then stopped. What if it was something bad? What if it was a monster? What if…? Cheli pressed on cautiously
As he got closer, he discovered it was red. Finally, he leaned down and peered at the object. It was a whiteboard Magic Marker! Bella awoke as Cheli picked up the marker.
“Pweez pweez pweez wit a cherry on top!” cried Bella, her hand stretching outward for the small token. Cheli uncapped the ordinary, yet peculiar marker and handed it to the now energetic Bella.
‘Great,’ murmured the teen, ‘now what?’ Here she was, babbling about a stupid marker in a random world of nothingness! She really dug herself into a hole this time. So she began digging, further and further, hoping that perhaps the hole would open up on the other side or she would find treasure buried at the bottom.
