The Pink Book
It was just another normal day…Wow how many stories start with that line?
Well as I was saying, it was just a day, nothing different from yesterday, nothing new, basically another day in my "exiting" life. Right…
I walked down the crowded streets of New York city, yeah I live in the "Big Apple" nothing too exiting, believe me. I was headed towards my dreaded job as a "Nifty Kalls" accountant, but hey it pays the bills so I can't complain.
Nifty Kalls is a growing cell phone company in New York, it has about 50 branches across the state, and 100 times more arrogant business suits to go with it. I seriously thought I was the only decent person in the business, everyone else in the company was too busy putting their heads in their asses to actually care about the customers. And yet Nifty Kalls was one of the growing businesses of New York, as almost quoted from the "New York Chronicles".
I walked in the door of a huge black building, next to some smaller ones, Nifty Kalls, the only arrogant son of bitches who would request being next to smaller buildings to make them feel superior. Nice isn't it?
I walked through the dark green carpeting of the first floor heading towards the elevator with a smile plastered on my face, "If your happy we're happy, we'll serve you with a smile". The Nifty Kalls motto, not that there's much truth in that, but hey it brings in the customers right?. I didn't quite like it myself though, ever sense that motto was made up, everyone, including me unfortunately, had to come to work with a smile. I walked passed the usual suspects going to the elevator, Cal the secretary up at the front desk, and some other unimportant people, Joe, Nick, Emily, and what's her face. There was also someone new talking to Emily, a man around his 20's. I didn't like to associate much with the other co worker's if you couldn't tell, but they love to rant on to me, so everyday when I walked through, I took the chance that one might start rambling to me. I hurried my pace, as I saw Emily make eye contact, I was not in the mood for a conversation, and definitely not one with her.
"Hey! Hey! Wait up hun!" Great she caught up to me, and hun? " Why are you in such a hurry? Not trying to avoid me are you?
Yes, but I couldn't tell you that…I thought as I turned my body to face hers completely, "No of course not! What gave you that silly idea?" My "dashing" smile was plastered across my face. Right…
"O never mind about that, I just wanted to ask you to join me at "Le Petite" after work, to celebrate" Her voice was so high and squeaking with joy, I could choke her…
"Celebrate?" It came into my mind and out my mouth faster than I could think to stop it. Great I just put about an extra 10 minutes to this conversation. Just great.
"Oh! You don't know?!" Her face lighting up, with an even bigger smile than what she had originally. "Our company just put "Richmans' Phones" out of business! Not that that's all that exiting, we knew we were going to long before we actually did it…Rant Blah Something Rant…"
See? Arrogance at its best.
She ranted on for about another 5 minutes before letting me go, making me promise to go to the "Le Petite" with her after work. I reluctantly said yes, anything to stop her talking. Of course she's probably going to talk more later at the café, sigh, well at least I got her off my back for the rest of the day.
"Ding!" Opened the elevator door, couldn't have open about 9 minutes sooner could you? I entered the small cubical like space and pressed the button labeled three. Up I go!
I know I said I would only work on Vampire Bite for the time being, but this story couldn't get out of my mind, so…Walah!
I hope you enjoyed, I wanted to write more than this, but time is short and I must go to Karate! Well I hope people enjoy this story
