Whatchamacallme: Taco, my cat who inspired ‘His Eyes’, is very old and it just dawned on me that he might actually die. I’ve never had a pet who I’ve known all my life die before; for me it is a daunting thought. These are just some questions about life and death.

Or are they both undeserving?

When a person has lived long,
When their race is finally done,
When they are ready to leave,
What is there?

When a small babe is just born,
When their life has just begun,
When they are to embrace life,
What is there?

When the old are restored,
And the new are set free,
But they both are cut off,
What is there?

There is no life,
If there is no death.
But there is no death,
If there is no life.

This circle is endless,
But there is an end.
The Lord will come,
And fill my questions.
