Coquettish
By Kaitlyn Grissom
“I wonder if you realize”, said the teacher to the
curly-haired coquette
Who rattled, chattered, flirted, without really saying
anything, “I bet
You hadn’t even noticed that with all your talk of
flippant sex and boys,
You’ve so far accomplished nothing, save to ruin perfect
silence with your noise.”
“I know you will forget me, but before you try to
gossip me away,
Retain this one thing only, though you may remember
nothing else today:
When all your words are emptied, when your final loud and
careless laugh is dead,
I wonder if you’ll cry to see the inside of your
empty little head.”
