This was also written for my creative writing class-- it had to be about writing but it couldn't use any images of actual writing, it was just supposed to be what writing is for us. So I used the image of escaping from a car crash because writing lets me take my problems and work through them. The formatting's not perfect, the haiku at the end should be right-aligned.

Writing

Twisted chunks of metal releasing smoke onto

the shoulder of a lonely highway

the police know nothing

at this early hour

no breath is heard screaming

to announce to the world their presence

Mangled bodies lie inside

blood seeping into cheap cloth seats

and smooth leather

One finger raised above the others

one last dying expletive

Through this the radio continues playing

insincere voices singing

about some imagined pain

from a well-appointed studio in Los Angeles

their words telling nothing about

what is truly happening

Once half-empty water bottles

littering the backseat

have now burst open

soaking the floor, now the ceiling

with stale rain

One droplet hits her forehead,

sliding down her nose and between her lips

one molecule of water enough to alter history

moving one twisted arm she lets out a cry

fingers reaching for the latch

somewhere above her head

Walking out of the

remains of an old life she

can never forget
