An Ode to Corn

The fields of green stretch along the horizon

As far as the eye can see—

Stalks of golden goodness!

Corn!

The sweet yellow kernels of life burst forth through the flesh of the earth,

Reaching, stretching, groping for the sky.

An analogous sea of green and blue: corn!

I prance through the crops,

Ripping off stalks and peeling back the fresh leaves, revealing the gold to me.

Corn!

My teeth sink into the crunchy flesh,

Gnawing, chewing, slurping at the tasty morsels that slide down my chin:

A perfect summer moment.

Then I fall back into it all,

Absorbing the very goodness of the earth.

Corn!
