Wilting of the Rose

Many secrets reside within

The dark, sheltered façade

Of which, I reside, with

No reason to be saved.

Disillusioned by the past,

Or by the future;

“The Way” is blocked

No hole or aperture.

Days before, a beauty in the mist

Collecting dew from the rain;

Only closing, again, to darkness

With none to release the pain.

Bright as a summer’s day, I shone,

Spectacular in the vulgar sun,

Courage and radiance in my petals

With a new life just begun.

Through the days, my spirit drooped,

Crumbling with the chilly air;

Strewn to the left and to the right

No reason left to stare.

You took my beauty…

You took my life…

Lashed out in disguise

Of the dark, cruel night.

Proving your superiority,

You destroyed nature’s rose,

While submersing in darkness

As it began to close.

Now, as my petals wilt,

My young bud newly dead,

I see my kind on the ground,

And I know it is the end.

You may take my spirit,

My value, and my life,

But always remember this:

You cannott extinguish my light.
