Epilogue
Kelly wandered out of the house most of the day. She would walk out, thinking about Canyon and the herd. Her mind was set on him. It had been a few months since she had seen him at all. She missed him. Katherine rode Merry in the field most of the day. She wanted the mare fit and ready so she could try showing her. They raced around the field and jumped rotting logs and stuff.
Kelly watched her as she trotted around the small, fenced area next to the house and lept over the obstacles. Katherine felt so good. Kelly was so happy for Lia, her mother. She had met someone and they were engaged. They were so happy. His name was Jake. He was quite a gentleman. The whole family enjoyed him. He had a sense of humor and knew how to take care of kids. He needed that when Lia found out she was expecting another child. What more did they need? First an engagement then another child. Kelly hoped it was a girl, she didn't want a guy in the family.
Kelly suddenly heard the sound of an engin roaring up the driveway. Before she turned around, she saw Matt walk out of the house and towards the trailer. He looked at her.
"Oh Kelly, could you help me?" he asked.
"Ok, what do you need?" she asked. He turned and walked towards the trailer. When he reached it, he signaled her to come. She ran over before he opened the door.
"I bought these for your mother as a wedding gift. I hope she likes them!" he told her, opening the door. Kelly gasped and held her hand over her mouth. Inside stood a mare and foal. The mare stared at her. She was a light beige with a dark grey mane and tail. She looked nothing like her son, who was black with a blaze and two socks on his back legs. He was small but cute. He stuck close to his mother.
The mare nickered to the foal to follow her when the man driving the truck lead her out.
"Kelly, this is my brother Glen." Jake introduced.
"Hey little lady!" he greeded. Kelly smiled. He was tall and slim, unlike his brother that was muscled. They didn't look alike. He smiled and handed me the lead. She grabbed it without hesitation. The mare followed her curiously. Kelly walked around, the mare following her. The cute foal dragged behind his dam curiously.
"What are their names?" she asked.
"Well, the mare's registered name is Living a Lie but we call her lie and the foal is Black Dancer but we call him Dancer for short" he answered. Kelly patted the mare's neck.
When she looked back at them, she noticed that they were both staring at the red ruby on her neck. When she looked down, she noticed it was glowing. Jake smiled and nodded his head, telling me that it was ok for me to go. She handed the lead to Glen and ran.
Kelly clutched the stone in her hand as she ran. She knew where to find him, at the cave. She noticed that Merry was standing peacefully in the field. Katherine was no where in sight. Kelly opened the gate and hopped on Merry's back. Katherine came out and noticed that her mare was getting away.
Kelly cantered the mare down into the forest. She didn't hesitate, Kelly held tight on her mane not to fall off. Merry stopped and nickered when she noticed the horses in front of her. Kelly hopped off her back and skipped over to them. Canyon rose his head and walked over to her. For once, Canyon didn't have a horn and he looked normal.
"Your back! I thought I would never see you again!" she cried, getting closer to him. Canyon stood there.
"We can't stay for long. My father, Flame is sick and we fear that his time is short."Canyon explained, lowering his head. Kelly glanced at Avianna, she looked bigger than before.
"Hey Avianna. Did you get bigger?" Kelly asked. Avianna smiled.
"Actually, Avianna and I are expecting our first foal." Canyon announced. smiling at her.
"But it hasn't been that long. How can that be?" Kelly asked.
"We've been expecting for a little while now! Shortly after you left, she decided she wanted to have a foal, and now she will." Canyon explained, nuzzling her.
"What happened to Blue?" she asked.
"One of the mares decided to take care of him. He is under good care!" Canyon answered. Kelly looked around.
"We must leave, I am sorry." Canyon apologized. Kelly nodded. Avianna walked back to the cave, Canyon walked over to her and nuzzled her. She hugged his neck.
"Please don't forget me when you start your family!" she whispered. He smiled and nodded. Canyon turned and followed her. In a moment, they were gone. She knew she would see them again.
She turned and walked back to Merry. She was standing quietly. The mare's ears were flicking non-stop. There was so much excitement. Kelly mounted her and rode off. She immediately saw Katherine standing by the gate waiting for the mare. She was furious.
When we reached her, Kelly dismounted.
"Why did you take her, she was relaxing!" Katherine yelled. Kelly didn't answer, she walked away. She gave Katherine a face.
She walked back to the house, she noticed that her mom had found out about the surprise and was kissing Jake. Kelly walked into the house and sat down. Lia walked in and poured herself a cup of tea.
"Mom, why can't we live in Glittia?" Kelly asked.
"Because!" her mom said.
"Because why?" Kelly asked.
"Because your father is remembered everywhere and that's sad, Kelly!" she explained. Kelly was leaving the room.
"You saw Canyon today, didn't you!?" she asked.
"How do you know that?" Kelly asked.
"A mother knows!" she murmured.
"I just wish I could be there for him. He needs me!" Kelly explained.
"We'll go back someday, Kelly. Someday!" Lia promised. Kelly smiled.
