Human Nature
There is a thirst,
But what is it for?
There is a hunger
For ever more.
Bread and butter,
Honey and wine.
Though these are good,
None can refine
The raw power of want,
Of need and desire
For control and strength,
Leaders and power.
For human nature,
Intricate it may seem,
Is not defined
By thought or by dream.
Instead it is written
In a history of wars,
A collection of murders,
And deaths by the score.
The story of humans
In a hunger and need.
Founded by thirst;
A thirst they call greed.
