AN: This was actually written by my sister Christina, it's written about the Cristeros in Mexico, fighting for their faith. It was inspired by Blessed Jose Luis Sanchez del Rio, the 14 year old martyr.

Cristero

(the broken soldier)

The cavalry falls back.

Wounded with blows from above and below.

A hot dust-clotted Mexican road.

Greening verdantly, calla lilies slender,

Bare,

Stretch up milky necks.

Upward innocently,

Unknowingly, too curious.

To a swift and throaty murder at it’s burnt yellow edges,

Soak in the soldier’s blood like kerchiefs

belonging to forlorn maidens

as they fall, a mass of crushing, oozing, and gaping,

Pistols drawn and dropped,

Eyes locked, Purple lips and lolling tongues.

Shot.

Necks breaking and lilies lying

Fallen, naked,

Cupping and

Stained with

This fresh blood.
