MOTHER NATURE
I am the one who created the desert and shrublands.
It is I who has fashioned the various trees.
The deer and the leopard are both my children,
As are the birds and the bees.
All of nature is a pawn to my feelings:
The clouds, the winds, the seas;
Tossing, turning, rolling, crashing,
All are in tune with me.
Everything sings of my beauty:
The land, the ocean, the sky.
Flowers tell tales of my presence
In the grasslands where I often lie.
Yet instead of being grateful,
You waste, leaving me to mourn.
You cannot remember the first rule of life:
Take only as much as you can return.
Born of that which created all life,
One would think I cannot feel pain.
But it seems that you have proved me wrong,
As your factories corrupt my pure, sparkling rain.
I watch patiently as my forests and rivers replete,
As you waste drop after drop after drop.
I wait for you to realize what you’re doing,
Yet it seems that you cannot stop
So I unleash my anger the only way I can:
Through tsunamis, earthquakes, hurricanes.
And still you don’t see—you must be blind—
You’re the only ones to blame.
Do you not know that I’m the mother of the Earth?
And that I am the child of the moon?
It is my thirst that wields the drought,
It is my tears that fall as monsoons.
And still you keep me waiting for some hint of change.
No need to worry, I’ve got plenty of time to give.
After all, in the end it’s not me, but you
Who needs this earth to live.
I went to this conference thing and started feeling all environmentalisty…. I’m quite pleased with how it turned out..:-P
