Twinkle Twinkle Little Star
Twinkle twinkle little star,
How I wonder what you are!
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky.
Nestled amongst the clouds and fog
Rivaled only by the moon.
Twinkling together, all the little stars,
To cast away the gloom.
Shining down upon us all;
Blessing us with more than light.
Called the ‘Sailor’s Compass’,
Sparkling constantly through the night.
Seducing us from the heavens above.
Forming patterns before our eyes.
Calling insistently, beckoning for us to come closer;
Sprinkled carelessly across the velvety night sky.
They shimmer away contemptuously,
Seeming far mightier than the common man,
Apparently enjoying some secret,
Shared only in the great blue expanse.
The mystery of their charm eludes us.
Their radiance fills us with awe.
Glittering innocently like crystals,
Perfect, without a flaw.
As the sky lightens from black to grey,
They fade, giving way to the sun.
The golden light spreads like butter;
A new day has begun.
Although they are hidden behind the light,
We know that they are never far,
Gleaming like jewels behind the veil of day,
The beautiful, brilliant stars…
Twinkle Twinkle Little Star has always been my favourite nursery rhyme, so I wrote this as a tribute to all those who loved it as much as I did.. :-P
