Muddy floodwaters rushed by endlessly
Tiny figures struggled all alone
Amidst the water tumbling relentlessly
Onward toward destination unknown
The thunderous tumult filled the valley
Echoing off barren land
The cries of those ensnared by their folly
Was heard by desolate sand
Screaming in terror forever dead
Encumbered beneath the heavy load
Refusing passage to light ahead
Forbidden to walk the narrow road
Clawing, fighting, struggling
For something they could never gain
Voices forever screeching
In agony and in pain
Broken lost souls cried out
Seeking the one unseen
From confusion and doubt
Wanting to become clean
People chocked with tight cords
Bound by sin and by Lucifer
Trapped by enticing words
Suffering in burning sulfur
Reaping the wages of their sin
Separated forever from Light
Doomed to raging darkness within
Hopeless to carry on with the fight
Amidst this complete misery
Came one who brought salvation
He administered his mercy
To people in each nation
His new message went to their enemy
No one heard because of their shame
They refused his help, crying “Blasphemy!”
And rejected his saving name
So the sinful people condemned him to die
His contorted body was nailed to a tree
Suffering in a way no one can deny
He sacrificed his life, so we can be free
Satan laughed with joy
Having defeated the light
And killed God’s one boy
Darkness entered, in delight
Only three days later the darkness receded
The devil cried in horror
When the tomb was empty and death was defeated
Ending his reign of terror
A pure sinless merciful hand
From the risen son
Reached into the desolate land
And rescued someone
Who was willing to accept
The precious gift he gave
Willing to grasp the concept
Of Christ’s power to save
His body was broken
For you and for me
Heaven has spoken
So we can be free
