on the North side,
rainbow's arched blades of paling grass,
house the agents of the pitched airwaves,
and though occasionally cars roll past,
the insects overpower those sounds.
And once the highway boomed throughout the day,
the night was empty from horrific noise,
so the crickets chirped in their subtle way,
perched on the grasses like sentries of a haven,
and though their sound was quiet at best,
their signal reached the foggy heaven's fast.
Above-soaring was one desperate body,
searching in vain for some sign of existence,
caught the noises on the rims of ears,
and in the pure excitement steered,
towards the sweet vibrations of the field.
with silent lights descended fast,
asaucer of the city-rim scene's glass,
it set a light upon the road,
and shifted focus to the grass.
Out hopped one horrific giant,
flattened plateau on the plain dim field,
legs extending about beady eyes,
thecreature was obscurely lit, and yet,
its craft still floated effortless above.
A vehicle passingon the highway,
petrified and crashed the overpass above,
the crickets though, the keepers of the call,
stood fast to greet the challenge of the dove,
the giant insect, seen the human lie,
and turning to the crickets calm aside,
and viewing the horizon of the land,
saw fast its rulers, and by its hand,
asound vibrated to the city,
waking me from my sleep of true,
and soon the crickets sung together,
though their noises never were the same.
I clawed on to my window clearly
staring out to the cloudy night,
and saw out of the corner of my eye,
alighted spacecraft springing from the highway,
flashing lights in all directions of the sky,
and sending out a cricket chirp,
so loud its sound could not deny,
and astounded for a second I,
turned for the camera on my desk beside,
but stared back fast, when I realized
that civilization had left me behind.
