AN: yeah I’m late I don’t care!
Chapter 9: Fatal blow.
Marchelle quietly lead his own army through the shade of the forest, the sun hadn’t come up quite yet but it was on their way and though the trees gave them more time it wouldn’t delay the sun forever and they were bound to get singed if not actually burned so he hurried them through. Many feet hit the ground their was also a few gun shots, hopefully from his frustrated vampires, shooting the branches away, he himself was hitting them away, then a sound something that sounded more cautious then his men were being. He closed his eyes and Bathilde walked by him. She stopped by his side trying to ask what was wrong. Her son was a little ways ahead of them both. Marchelle called out. "Ratio get back here!" Marchelle looked almost angry.
Ratio rolled his eyes and turned back hoisting his captive a little more comfortably under his arm. "What’s wrong with you?" He asked curiously, he was no child there was nothing wrong with him going ahead. He cried out in pain suddenly, the sound was louder then it should have been for how much it hurt. He looked down to the see the bullet wound He grimaced and Marchelle snarled at the cowardice of man. "Show yourself!" The fight was meant to be over, he just hoped it was not a slayer that would be so foolish. Wrong again. Camouflaging paint moved as one of his enemies showed himself. Damned Kevin Jaud He smiled almost sadistically.
"I hope you burn vampire." The man said and soon enough it was like the forest had come to life. The trees moved the branches well the arms swung and they were surrounded by the bushes. Kevin had all his men disguised about them. Ratio moved and then the pain spread, through his blood, the bullet already dissolved. They were special bullets, removable and containable but only if he got it out in the next two hours otherwise he would be dead. Damned man. Ratio knew better then to keep fighting he moved to stand with his parents, or more so behind them in order to ensure he wouldn’t get shot again. A second battle was on the eave of starting as Kevin’s men moved Bathilde also moved. Telling them to backoff would do no good, even with the slayer captive it wouldn’t stop Kevin from retaining his dignity due to his own son’s capture. And so she pulled out hidden guns. They did not shoot bullets, but they could kill. Only vampires carried these.
She firmly planted herself on the ground, no one was shooting yet all were aiming at the king and the already dying prince. Others were to curious to see what she would do she closed her eyes rose her hands like a star out from her head and then the small guns, no bigger then her daughter’s hand went off. No bullet came out, what came was a large blow of air, the force from it blew many of the soldiers out of their hiding places, some into trees other into range of waiting vampires. They may not of had an army but they had a king and queen with brains.
This was a gun fight with plenty of cover, once they had gotten over the shock Bathilde secreted herself away in the trees. They thought they could fight them here but the vampires knew the forest better, they could tell where the soldiers were hiding if they needed to. Thousands of gun shots sounded and outside everyone of the soldiers were watching. Ross turned his head back watching the forest with worried eyes. They were all loaded on the KVs, Violet’s head rolled limply on his chest, her body placed correcting in front of him on the vehicle. Blaze’s engine revved and Midori and her father forced themselves to look away, it was all they could do, to go in would be murder and they already owed Marchelle for their Violet.
Morgana’s mouth fell open in a silent scream as she heard the bullets her eyes sad, Matt looked as well his mother beside them her eyes unmoving and unblinking as they waited. She was worried for her husbands death, she always would be. She prayed that he stay alive. On the other side people were falling again both vampire and human that a shot went strait for Marchelle’s forehead it was slow motion to him he rose his blade spinning it so that it hit the bullet, the blade bent and quivered in his hand as the blade was deflected to the ground. His eyes bore into Jaud’s own. He shot again, and again, many eyes had turned to watch the two leaders fight and then the bullets stopped. Everything went still then many heads turned. Marchelle had raised a gun and shot.
Blood dripped down his chin and on to his shirt, he hiccuped and more splattered down his neck. Further trails went down his legs from the original whole. Marchelle unlike popular belief knew how to use technology and one cheap shot on his son deserved another. The shot had hit him the base of the neck just before the bone, he tried to breath but couldn’t blood oozing in his wind pipe, and he died, his eyes rolling back falling slowly like a dear. What a way to go. Marchelle didn’t watch, unlike Kevin’s men who all stopped, without a leader what were they suppose to do?
Marchelle’s concern was for his son. He lead Ratio under his arm toward the escape route, practically stepping over the fallen commander. Bathilde also started for their exit a little more secretly. She then called "Move." The vampires for the most smirked and left as the men stared in aw at their leader, what were they to tell Kevin’s wife, Kevin’s son... this wasn’t a good thing right? His pride had overpowered his life. Two of the men looked at each other before one took Kevin’s arms and the other his legs. Two more came to help lift his back. They would have to take him back, they couldn’t leave him here.
The vampires made it quickly the sun was over the horizon now and some of the vampires were starting to itch badly. The royals had more fair skin then the rest and Marchelle’s arm was already reddening, he ignored it hiding his sons form rather then his own, Bathilde was more cautious watching the vampires hurry, making sure that the king was ahead of them and watching for her own burns. They made it to the ducts, the guards already had the entrance uncovered and open. Downwards and into safety. Marchelle still held Ratio underarm, yelling for help.
On the other hand Ratio had dropped the captive, He lay on the ground as the other vampires made to escape the sun. Vahn and Mikenno saw him, contemplating weather to take him. Would Ratio be mad if they didn’t? Mikenno chewed on her lip, but too soon Barradose caught up with them. "Grab ‘em." He already had blood down his front. So Vahn went forward and picked up the small mass, he had expected a heavier weight but the boy he carried weighed very little. The rest of the vampires started toward the open doors, Marchelle got out of the way. His people’s lives mattered just as much as his own.
Soon enough Noa and Julia took Ratio from Marchelle’s care and thigns started to settle down, a small girls hands clasped her father’s leg and side. Celtia watched her brother struggle to stand as julia and Noa took him to be fixed up. They ahd an antidote but the poison would kill much of the blood in him. Ratio was not a heavy eater. He rarely took blood, far to much compassion for a vampire prince, this made every drop that he had very valuable. Now it spilled on the floor and on his hands. Olivia approached Vahn. "I will take him to Ratio’s room for now. Ratio will be back in no time flat." She winked and Vahn nodded.
"Alright." She put her arms out and he let the boy down bridal style to Olivia. "Careful." She sung lightly with the boys weight but once again they were surprised at how little his overall mass was. She walked down the halls, many of the vampires were injured. Bathilde traveled up and down the halls giving care where she could and telling other vampires how they could help, most of the vampires that were well had taken those that were sick to their rooms, to care for them properly on a soft surface. Olivia herself felt like falling asleep. She pushed a royal door open, and was hit with a wave of cinnamon and well sweat. She shook her head and quickly made haste inside the rom putting the boy on the bed. The blood was congealing but it would need better care, if Only Olivia could get rid of the smell. She held her nose, her lips turned in disgust.
She looked about the room, strewn with clothes from training. Damn Man didn’t know how to clean, and with a vampires heightened senses it was enough to kill her. She sighed loudly and quickly picked up the clothing, and a few pillows that Celtia may have thrown around. She through them into the bathroom hamper, someone was sure to take care of them, sooner or later. She then turned back to the boy again. She sighed and quickly made short work of the bloodied shirt. She looked at the wound closely. She couldn’t tell if it was a stab wound or a slash. The angle made it look like it had been a stab at first but the boys movement had caused a large tear to his side.
She sighed again and went to the bathroom, dampening a cloth with warm water she began cleaning the blood away without stopping the scabbing. Tarras, the boy was so peaceful in his sleep, a young innocent face. Hard to believe moments ago he had been trying to kill her Ratio. She began to actually care for the wound itself.
Noa and Julia clasped hands behind Ratio’s back to hold him up, they dropped him to a chair near the main guards sector, they had a lot of healing items. They didn’t have to worry about getting the bullet out it was already dispersed in his body. They quickly put a healing a soothing salve on the wound and then took out a special mixture. They had scientists underground, every kind of person was bitten. It was a blood and antidote solution that had no negative affects, but it only worked if given within a hour of the shot, any longer and there were many other complications.
Ratio felt nausea wave over him, it was real blurry, but it was gradually getting better. He sat for he didn’t know how long, soon enough the pain and nausea went away to be replaced with a surreal half awake half asleep feeling, then the feeling of floating on air. Which was actual Barradose carrying him somewhere he could sleep, he’d be back up in twenty minutes. The medicines worked like a charm for anyone. The royals usually were fine in an hour, the wound closed within a day. Thank heavens for evolutions gift of fast healing.
Soon enough the sleep ran away and he was becoming more alert. Julia pushed open ratio’s bed room door, "Olivia, Ratio’s waking, perhaps you should come." Olivia hesitated a moment but then checked the Tarras’s forehead and smiled, at the normal temperature and headed out with Julia.
"Wake-y wake-y" Olivia poked Ratio’s forehead as he came to full consciousness, it had taken a full extra hour. Lazy bum. He blinked slightly then smiled with that usual cocky smirk, he was being watched by Olivia, Noa, Julia and his father from afar.
"I feel so loved guys." He chuckled as Olivia gave him a pinch. Soon enough he was on his feet, still feeling slightly lightheaded but much better. The wound was already closing, he could feel the walls of skin coming together with the newly formed skin cells. Then he remembered. "Where’s the human?" He realized he didn’t have the Tarras under his arm, and he wasn’t anywhere he could see him. Olivia cursed and Ratio looked to her for the answer.
Raven’s eyes opened slowly blinking any the blur, unfortunately he couldn’t say the same for his throbbing headache and side. He didn’t want to move. He felt very cold but like he was constricted, instead his eyes searched the room, red walls... could be blaze’s room, though he doubted the red head would let him near his room. Maybe a spare room? Why hadn’t they put him in his own room, come to think of it. He should have been in the infirmary, well Serena’s care room anyways. He finally decided this couldn’t be anywhere else but the Degauss apartments, he moved his arm, dang. The sheets were like pillows in themselves, it was so soft. The pillow his head was on was heavenly. Odd he could smell a very small scent of cinnamon.
He looked at the very large bed. It was huge, he didn’t think Degauss would do this, he had seen Serena’s room before it wasn’t hers so it could only be his bosses room... that didn’t make much sense. Then again the idea that he wasn’t in VH headquarters struck him. He noticed the absence of windows. Then the open dresser with weird clothing, it was like a teenagers clothing... it was all hung up but it wasn’t something Degauss would wear. "Where am I?" He voice was cracked and sounded like a broken record. No one answered.
Ratio rolled his eyes, they had left the human alone. Great, his wall only had the prized royal weapons adorning it. Stupid... He sighed and headed down the hall towards his own room, hoping the wound would stop the kid from wielding blade or axe.
Raven slowly began to move, his side hurt a lot but he had to, he fell onto his back and used his arms to sit up on the pillows, he winced heavily. It hurt a lot. He held his side, realizing that he was indeed shirtless. Great. He was starting to remember what had happened on the battle field... the blond. She had told the vampire not to kill him... so he had complied but where was he now?
He remember being hit in the head, that explained his headache. Then what? He couldn’t remember. Dammit. The door opened and Raven jumped a foot then held his side in pain. Never had he hoped to lay in his rivals bed, but now it seemed a better option that to stand and face his rival, especially with his weapons gone. It was do or die then, Raven quickly got out of the bed, adrenalin pumping through his blood forcing him to forget his pain. Ratio’s eyebrow raised as he watched the small human a smug smirk fixing on his face.
