Once, a lifetime ago, I wished I had black hair

Gray eyes

A crown of silver

The infinity of an elf

But, then I found out elves weren't real

Once, a lifetime ago, I wished I had flaming red hair

Pale ivory skin

A sword in my hand

But, then I found out swords were meant to kill

Once, a lifetime ago, I wished I could live a life of fantasy

With a handsome prince

A far off land

An adventure around every corner

But, then I found out life can't always be a fairy tale

Now I have gray hair

I am an old woman

No more do I wish for these things

For even though I have wrinkles around my eyes, and cannot walk

My life has been its own adventure

And through my life, I have found beauty, which goes beyond my shallow fantasies
