I drank & danced ‘til night came
& almost blew him off for
A bottle of my favourite type of wine.
I lay next to my lover
& he stroked me like I wasn’t
About to leave him right again this time.
-
He had that look in his eye like
He was wondering if it meant much
Then he kissed me so the words could not come out.
And I laughed & swayed ‘til morning
& when he touched my body
I smiled at him like there wasn’t any doubt.
--
And I love him
More than I know him.
He doesn’t mean much
But that doesn’t matter much to me.
-
He is just a lover
And they come & go far too fast
But I can say goodbye then
When I have to leave.
--
I danced & drank ‘til morning
& almost called him up to
Annoy him like I did in old age times.
I lay next to my lover
Who asked what I was thinking
As I stared at my phone waiting for a reply.
-
You had that look in your eye like
I was crying far too much, like
Then you kissed me so the tears would stop their flow.
And I laughed & swayed in your arms
Pressed up against your body
Because I love so much more than you know.
--
And I love you so
Much more than I know.
He doesn’t mean much
But that doesn’t matter much to me.
-
He is just a lover
And they come & go far too fast
But I can say goodbye then
When I have to leave,
When I have to leave.
--
Because ‘home’ for me.
Is in your arms,
When you’re looking down on me,
& smiling & saying,
--
“Everything will be alright…”
‘Cause everything will always be alright.
…And now I’m home.
