Darkness shrouded her mind, like a mass of black fog, that seeped into her brain and rendered it numb. Her back ached, her feet itched, and her hands shook, she was hardly able to hold the lead pencil in her left hand because of the shaking!

Come on Tarie! Stop this! Wake up! Come on Tarie think!’

Then the pencil slipped from her numb trembling fingers, and the small audible ‘thump’ of the pencil hitting the paper was like the sound of doom to her ears!

Sighing Tarie put her face in her hands, griping at her hair in anger and stress. Then almost with a look of hope removed her hands just enough so she could see the piece of paper she was meant to write on, and found it blank. Growling her anger she pushed the paper away from her, and watched the paper flutter to the ground like a giant snow flake, and the led pencil cluttering away along the desk, then tipped and fell off the table without a sound on the new blue carpet.

Sighing once more Tarie lent back on her chair and sat looking at the clean blank desktop in front of her, really looking at nothing as she though quietly to herself.

I can’t do it! I’ve been trying all morning! And what do I get? Nothing!’ then in her frustration she yelled out in the quiet class room, “I HAVE A WRITERS BLOCK!”

“Now, now Tarie! What’s all this noise?” said her senior English teacher rushing over to her desk, and on his way trying to get all of her other class mates back to work, “Now what’s the problem?”

“Sir! It is something truly terrible! I have developed a writers block!” Tarie wined, clutching her hair in distress. The teacher frowned at Tarie and replied, “Now Tarie. There’s no need to go all emotional on a simple little thing like a writers block!”

“But sir! It’s horrible! How can I become a world renown writer if I can’t write anything!”

“Come on Tarie! Stop being silly! Pick up your paper and pencil off of the floor and get some work done!” the teacher growled disapprovingly, stomping away from her to help another student. Dejected, Tarie slowly got up and retrieved the offending pencil and paper, set them on her desk, and sat down staring at the blank piece of paper, not even picking up the pencil.

Staring at the paper Tarie probed with her mind, willing the paper to tell the story of her dream that was floating in her mind. She visioned the scenes from her dream; a land of emerald grass, silver shining rivers, the purple sky with pink clouds that turned a shining black that rained the silver water, a valley of folded origami flowers made of fine white silk, the bird of fire singing in the nearby red flaming tree.

Then almost distantly she remembered a boy; about her age, only a head taller then her self, he wore fine shining black clothes made of woven silk, his skin creamy pale, short wavy black hair that perfectly framed his deep blue eyes.

Tarie gasped as she shook her head, trying to wake up, she didn’t remember seeing the boy in her dream!

Then she glanced at her paper again and sighed when she realized there was nothing like her dream on there, nothing was written on it at all!

Why can’t I write my dreams down? I can picture them in my head, but I can’t describe it on paper!’ Tarie thought to herself staring blankly at the message board up on the opposite wall, ‘Looks like I’ll have to give up on it after all.’ she decided picking up her pencil again, but something on the message board caught her eye.

“Hold the phone ....,” Tarie said to herself, getting up and walking over to the board and unpicked a piece of paper off the board, “What’s this?”

Then below these words was a empty space with torn edges, as if all the tabs had been taken! Tarie was about to rip the paper up in anger when she noticed there was one tab left right in the right corner, which she quickly took.

“Great! Now I can go to the office and get the kit! I just hope it’s not a waist of time!” Tarie said to herself and started to head off when the teacher spotted her and said, “Where do you think your going young miss! We’ve still got a whole period of this class left!”

Damn!’ Tarie thought to herself as she made her way back to her desk and sat there for the rest of the class, but she didn’t write anything down, all she did was look at the small rectangle piece of paper in her hand that she hoped was the answer to her problems!
