Eagle’s Roost
by P.H. Wise
The eagle’s roost is
occupied again
though not by
eagle-kind, nor other bird;
the woven nest on
yonder mountain peak
usurped by serpent-kind
lies desolate;
a living ruin where
venom-suckled spawn
grow strong and swarm
across the eagle’s land.
The sun by them is
darkened, and the moon
as blood, sets wrathful
o’er the mountainside.
