Waking Nightmare
By: Heather Grey
The death chill in the morning air
Calls to me—
Commands me to wake from my
Eternal slumber from my cozy coffin.
As much as I refuse,
My body goes in stiffness.
My feet touch the icy floor
And I tremble and mourn for the warmth
That's not there no more.
But I must go on.
Shackled in chains and slave to routine,
I go about dreaming of the comforts of bed.
As day slowly ends (such cruel torture)
I find my lost friend as I drift off—
Knowing the nightmare will repeat once again.
