History Reflections

By: Heather Grey

Brave Soldiers Go On

The sun dawns and the trumpet sounds;

Time to head off into the horizon.

Drums pound the beat, which

Makes the men travel on.

Arm with muskets,

They marched without a word.

They know the fight will come soon

But when, the suspense builds.

The drums continue as

The scared men think

Of their sweethearts.

Will they die?

Or will they live?

God has the answers.

In the clear distance,

The enemy is in sight.

Troops halt and prepare

As the Confederates near.

Officers shout,

Commands order,

The men wait in an

Unabated breath.

In minutes they clash,

Blood and bullets fly.

Both sides fight,

Never backing off.

The colors of their flags

Penetrates the smoky haze,

Pride, love, and loyalty

Fill their hearts and spirits.

Soon the battle ends.

The smoke clears to

Show the fallen heroes.

Tears stream down their faces,

But the war is not over.

The struggle continues

For another day.
