Nobody likes you,
Everyone left you,
They’re all out without you,
Havin’ fun.
Green Day, Homecoming Part 3: Nobody Likes You
.chapter one.
“He’s starring at you again,” reported the brunette before taking another drink of her cappachino. The warmth of it filled her on that cold winter day. The blonde sitting next to her looked towards the direction the guy was that had supposedly been starring.
“Really, ya think?” she asked somewhat hopeful. Giving him another glance she turned back around to face her friend. “He’s cute.” Her friend just nodded.
“Then go for him.” She took another sip.
“Are you sure he’s looking this way?” The brunette sighed.
“Yes, Carrie, I’m sure. You’re supposed to be the more self-confident one, remember?”
“Are you calling me egotistical?”
Rolling her eyes she answered, “Go talk to him already.” Carrie nodded and took a drink of her coffee.
“Be right back, Saige,” she told her friend before walking towards the brown haired boy.
She wished she could do that; pull guys in so easily. But that was just her friend Carrie’s main talent with her blond hair and crystal blue eyes. How could she compete with her dark brown hair and hazel eyes. Average.
No one noticed which was probably for the best because of her shyness. Sure, she’d stick up for herself if someone was pissing her off but usually she didn’t go up to people and just start making friends. That just wasn’t like her unless she felt like being different. Sometimes she wished to have Carrie’s boldness.
Her blond friend returned, interrupting her from staring off into space any longer. Carrie had a big smile on and by the looks of it, Saige could tell he had asked her out or vise versa.
“Guess what!” she said excitedly.
“Now let me go out on a limb here but I’m guessing you have a date for this upcoming Friday or Saturday, right?” Carrie nodded, ignoring her friend’s sarcastic nature that she had become accustomed to.
“There’s this party Friday and we’re going to go!”
“Yes, well, I hope you have fun,” Saige said, taking a sip from her precious drink.
“Oh no, you’re coming too.” Saige seemed to have choked a little on the beverage making her cough a bit.
“What?” she asked with raised eyebrows. “Ya know I don’t like going to those things. Besides, you’ll be too interested in What’s-His-Face over there to know if I’m there or not.”
“No, no! Please, Saige. It’ll be fun.”
“You’re definition of fun would be...?” Carrie pouted the pout that always seemed to work on everyone. After a few minutes of withstanding it, Saige deflated, “Fine, fine. But if anybody comes up to me with dandruff issues and smelly breath, I’m bolting out of there,” she said quite seriously but Carrie laughed anyway.
“Don’t worry, I’ll keep tabs on ya and make sure that no one of that species comes near you.” Saige nodded, sulking. She really didn’t want to go but she’d put up with it for her best friend’s sake.
The two left, Carrie looking behind her to wave to the brown haired guy. Carrie drove her light blue car to Saige’s considering Saige had not yet gotten her drivers license due to her parent’s overwhelming protectiveness. Turning off the engine once reaching their destination, they both hopped out of the car and went inside. Saige made a move for the staircases to go to her room when she was interrupted.
“Saige! Where were you? You didn’t tell us where you were and we were worried! You know better,” came her mother’s yell from another room.
“You’re always worried,” Saige mumbled under her breath. “I left only an hour ago and I even left you a note,” she said louder to her mother.
“No you didn’t,” Her mother replied. Leaving Carrie in the living room where she waited for the routine fight to end, Saige walked past her mother into the kitchen. Her mother followed her to the refrigerator where her daughter stood, pointing to a small piece of paper with scribbled words on it.
“Did you even check here, the place where occasionally notes go?” Saige couldn’t help but ask sarcastically.
“Don’t talk to me like that,” her mother scorned.
“Whatever mom. Carrie and I are going to my room, ‘kay?” She walked past her mother, not waiting for an answer. The two girls went up to Saige’s room, Saige shutting the door behind her. Letting out a sigh, she took a seat in her desk chair while Carrie sat on her unmade bed.
“Why do they have to do that?” Saige asked, not really expecting an answer.
Knowing of whom she was talking about and what, Carrie replied, “Because your parents love you, Saige. They’re just... too overprotective at times.”
“Try all the time,” Saige said with a roll of her eyes. “Anyway, who was that guy at the coffee place?” Carrie’s eyes brightened a bit.
“Zach. He’s so cool, I’m sure you’ll love to meet him and—” Carrie rambled on while Saige listened occasionally, zoning out only every other sentence. Even after knowing Carrie for more than nine years, Saige still didn’t know how to deal with one of her boy crazy moments and usually just ended up blocking her out. Oh well.
The next day started early, way too early for most sane people. Saige slammed her fist on the buzzing alarm that read six. Dragging herself out of bed, she stumbled into the bathroom taking a quick shower. Afterwards, she dressed into a random band T-shirt, jeans, a studded belt, a wristband, and a choker that followed her usual day-to-day wear.
Another dull day. Lovely, Saige mentally groaned as she made her way out the front door.
