The Curse of Pluto

Knowing not the harm she was causing,
She ate of the fruit,
A pulpy imprisoning.

In Spring she sang to the birds,
The little saplings and animals that came calling.

In Summer she danced on the grass,
And smelled of dew and warmth and other pleasant things.

But on one fateful day,
One that would change the world forever to come,
She ate the fruit of Pluto,
And was bound to be with him forever.

The Earth disturbed, it fell to chaos.
Blizzards in the sun, drought in the rain,
Zeus had to find a way
To make things right again.

A deal was made, A bargain struck,
She must spend one fourth of the year with Zeus,
One fourth with her mother.

As for the rest,
She was doomed to the World of the Under.
Because she took of the World of the Dead,
She was promised to Pluto,
For the rest of her days.

Beware, My child!
You pretty little fawns.
For Hades is always looking for a friend,
And you seem decent enough to me.

Do not eat the fruit you’re offered when visiting Hell!
For if you do, tempted by some strange force,
You’ll be there forever,
For I’m sure Zeus would not speak on your behalf.

Dark and dreary,
Only souls of the dead in sight.
That, my children,
Shall be your plight.
The curse of Pluto,
Only souls of the dead in sight...
