It was a dark and stormy night, as he walked down the street. The rain beat against him, as the lightning thundered above. It was no more than what he expected, every night was this way. It had been so since he could remember. Even as a young boy walking the streets, the nights were always storming. He stopped and stared up at the moon shining brightly behind the darkened clouds. He smiled as the rain fell onto his face; the moon had always captivated him. It was the main reason he walked the streets at night, otherwise he wouldn’t bother leaving the house. Although this night it wasn’t the reason he was outside, he felt a sensation earlier that troubled him and now he needed to find the source of it.
The few people he passed didn’t stop to glance at him twice; it was no longer odd to see Marcus Grey wandering around at night. He was always called the strange one in town and was known as an outcast. Which didn’t bother him to the tiniest bit, he actually enjoyed being left alone and undisturbed. His mother didn’t care for his silent life nor did she care for most other things he did. He couldn’t blame her for that, at least, not anymore. Not since that strange night three years ago, the night that changed his life forever.
It was a Friday night, the 13th if he wasn’t mistaken, and oddly enough there was no rain. The sky was clear with a bright full moon and filled with stars. He was 18 years old and had to get out of the house. The argument he just had with his father was far worse than any he had in the past, even his mother turned against him this time. So he had to take a walk and was grateful that it was nighttime.
As Marcus walked down the streets, it felt strange to him. He wasn’t used to clear nights, it bothered him and he actually missed the rain. When he reached the park that was in the middle of town, it was oddly covered in shadows. The park was large in size and scarcely had any trees, three to be exact. So it intrigued him that it was darkened now, and he entered the park hoping to find the source of the shadows.
When he reached the center of it, he realized it was darker there than anywhere else. Curiosity flowed through him as he walked into the middle of the shadows, which was a mistake. The instant the darkness completely surrounded him, pain exploded throughout his entire body. Causing him to fall to the ground, unconscious.
Marcus awoke several hours later. His body ached and he couldn’t move. As he looked around, he realized that he was no longer at the park. It took him countless tries before he could stand up. Once he was on his feet again, he looked around at his surroundings. The smell of salt water was strong, so he knew he was near the ocean, although he never seen this place before.
He was standing on sand, but the water was nowhere to be seen. The only thing in sight was a small beach house off in the distance. Realizing that it could be the only way out of this place, he decided to check it out. As Marcus approached it, a figure walked out of it wearing a dark hooded shroud, and stood waiting for him. Within seconds a second figure came out of it, also wearing a hooded shroud. He felt uneasy as he walked toward them, for they never took their eyes off of him.
When he reached them, they made a path for him to get by them but said nothing. He walked up the steps and stood on the porch between them. As he stood there, he examined both of them. One wore a midnight black colored shroud, whereas the other one wore a light blue one. Neither had any of their faces showing, except for their eyes, and the shrouds were held tightly closed. The one on his right and wearing the black had dark teal eyes. The one on the left wearing the blue had amethyst eyes. After taking another look at both of them, he entered the house.
Marcus had reached the center of the house, before he realized there were no walls to it, nor a ceiling or floor. He stood on nothing, was surrounded by nothing. He was the only thing in this pitch-black place, filled with nothingness. As he turned back the way he just came from, the door was gone, replaced by complete darkness. All of a sudden he fell to his knees in excruciating pain. The last thing he remembered before he passed out was hearing a voice say: “ It is time for you to awaken to your true self.”
Since then, everything about him and his life was different. His senses became strangely acute and his strength and speed had also increased. Not even his parents were the same. All his father wanted to do anymore was yell at him and his mother gave up on him entirely. They both calmed some since that night, but not by much.
