to grow up

i am on the verge

of discovering

the depths of the human soul

on the cusp of something more

unable to grasp what i yearn to know

oh the world is so vast

must recall basic lessons of the world

of giving and innocence

kindness and selflessness

all simplistic visions of my past

i must journey farther

discover my potential

unravel the evils of the mind

will sanity conquer?

do not know what waits for me

scared for what i will find

there is so much to learn

and i realize

my hourglass could break at any time

but now i must jump

hoping the river of adulthood

does not swallow me whole

i am stuck between two realities

and must go on to the next

eventually

for that is what it means

to grow up
