Mason
Mason Klepski ran through the library, searching intently for Melody Summers. He couldn’t stand to have her hating him, especially for the reason he suspected. He hadn’t meant to tick her off at all, but how else was he supposed to whitness to her? He couldn’t bear to see someone he cared to deeply about to suffer without God in her life.
"Hey Mase!" Mason swung around on his feet, hoping it was Melody calling his name behind him in an attempt to apologize. It wasn’t.
"Hey, Dawn." He muttered dully. Dawn Relpkis smiled brightly at the sound of her own name, punching Mason slightly on the arm. He flinched in pain but carefully recovered. His arm was already bruised.
"What’s got you so down and out?" Dawn asked, turning to walk towards the exit with Mason.
"Melody and I just fought. She stormed out of the teen room and now I can’t find her. Did you see her when you came in?" Mason looked hopefully at Dawn but all she did was shake her head.
"Nope, M.J I haven’t. But don’t stress out about it. You know how Melody gets sometimes. She’s just a little touchy, you should be used to it by now." Dawn laughed slightly at her own joke that Mason didn’t find funny.
"It doesn’t matter how touchy she is, Dawn. She was pretty upset. She was crying before I came to surprise her. Something’s bothering her and I’ve got to find out what." Mason stepped in front of Dawn and walked off, still searching for Melody unsuccessfully.
"Mason Klepski you’ve got a call on the telephone. Is there a Mason Klepski in this room?" M.J groaned and turned around again towards the teen room, dragging his feet from frustration.
"Hello?" He answered the phone, holding it away from his face. The receiver was sweaty from the receptionist’s palms.
"You need to get home now!" His father spoke into the phone. Mason quickly thanked God he had held the phone away from his ear. "It’s after 8 o’clock and I expected you home at 6. What have you been doing? Have you been hanging with those girl friends of yours? Didn’t I tell you to stay away from them? You better get home now before I come and get you."
Mason hung up the receiver and stormed out of the library, searching left and right for Melody. He hung onto his cross necklace and prayed as he gave up his search. Lord please let Mel be safe. I didn’t mean to upset her, Lord. I just want her to get to know You and love You. She needs You Lord. Please protect her wherever she is tonight.
Mason arrived at his house 5 minutes later, expecting his father to greet him with a beer in his hands. "I’m home, Dad!" He yelled, not bothering to find his father. He was probably out back with his buddies if he wasn’t in the living room on the sofa. Either way, Mason knew he was drunk. It wasn’t new at all, really. It’d been going on for the past three years. Ever since his mother had left them and went to Heaven.
Suddenly Mason’s cell phone began to vibrate in his pocket. He picked it up and the voice on the other end began to cry. "M.J, please pick me up. I’m on E. 7th Pane Street. I have to go, Mase. Please come." The line clicked off and Mason flipped his phone shut.
"Dad, I’m borrowing the car!" Mason threw open the front door and climbed in the car, not caring for once what his Father said about him taking it. The drunken idiot never used it anyway and Dawn needed his help.
