I turn away

mumble

"I don't like him"

all the while thinking

yes I do

all the while wanting to say

I can lie to you,

fool you so simply

but I cannot lie to my heart

because my heart cannot be fooled

with such trickery as this

with such a simple lie

because my heart doesn't listen

to anything it doesn't say

because lying to it

is impossible

and in my foolishness

I try to overcome the impossible

but it simply

cannot

be done
