23 disembodied wings

on the waiting room’s window sill.

But not a single fly

Dead or alive.

Their bodies are wrapped

in the spider’s web.

It must have been a lavish meal

I know how the flies must feel.

23 ghostly wings

floating in the waiting room’s AC

those foolish flies

who came inside,

and can’t find their way back.

They crash into the glass

Over and over again

Determined to try

Though they’ll never win

Those poor flies.

23 long lost wings

to count as you wait and think.

a vague warning

But what does it say?

You never learn from other’s mistakes,

And now it’s too late

The doctor is here to put you away.
