metamorphosis
helium lost

——————————

crack, crack
the cocoon is shattering,
veins
splintering up along its once-smooth surface,
and from it emerges—
two antennae, grappling
searching for a stronghold
pincers clicking, dripping
searching for that delectable, delicious
flesh.
bristled, rough legs
groping, trying to find an exit
from this crystalline, milky-white
(like the clouded eyes of the blind)
hellhole.

such an absurd, disgusting
creature cannot be the
beautiful butterfly
i once knew.

Author’s Notes: Constructive criticism and other reviews are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Edit: I've decided to remove the first two and a half lines of the second stanza; they just didn't fit.
