The Strained Adolescence

Through those holes the light of age is flowing,
Shedding years from pores and never slowing.
Forth from metal falls maturity,
Gone are the days of youthful purity.
Awakened from the depths of sweet repose,
The child must obey rules he opposed.
Separating man from callow fledgling,
The strainer drips of gray, morose edging.
To cast aside life’s simple vanities,
Seizing the future’s opportunities.
When there exists a need for times of old,
A drop remains, its value beyond gold.

Author's Note: This poem is a "conceit" poem, which relates two completely different things to one another. In my case, a strainer and adolescence. It's a strange comparison to draw, but it seemed appropriate, I suppose. Anyway, the format is basically aabbccdd... etc., etc. Twelve lines, not anything too special-- however, it took me a while because it is written in iams and each line (except for 3, I think) has 10 syllables. It wasn't required, but I did it anyway. Hope you enjoy it!
