Numbers

Snippets
of sapphire skies gleaming
effortlessly
off the water

and you.
laughing as if all the
energy of the sun
is injected,
but it’s too much…
so
it seeps from your eyes.

Can’t go back
There.
sky is fading,
dulling,
hardly
detectable.

Lost
Left on the floor as you laugh
You leave, you change
Your voice,
It’s not the same…

my heart is slowly
patching
the gap you left.
Yet
The memories of someone whose
Phone number, I’ll never
Forget…
my fingers are sometimes
m e c h a n i c a l l y
drawn.to.the.numbers, attached.to.you,

like me.

Stronger,
Almost fixed…
People have moved in
To where you left when it was still
Good.

Hoping maybe someday
your fingers
will squirm, disoriented.
no numbers,
to press.
