Reality As I Know It

I sit in this chair,

My mind whirling around and around,

I stare at the board, so numb,

Is it really peace I’ve found?

My feelings, slowly changing,

Just like everything in me.

My point of view, once so clear,

Now just a pool of misery.

Scrape after scrape on the black,

Leaving a curly trail of white.

But my mind is what I have,

It’s the only thing in sight.

Chains slink out to greet me,

Holding me tight.

I don’t know what’s wrong,

Nor do I know what’s right.

As I sit here in this chair,

My mind whirling around and around,

I stare at the board, so numb,

Is this really peace I have found?
