Masquerade

To save myself the pain of seeing myself

I hide who I am from the world, showing

It to no one, keeping it locked up tight,

For fear of falling apart.

I’m bound together with weakening

Joints, my mask breaking a little more

Each day, I wish for the world to see

That I am more than I appear to be.

To hear the lies that feel my world

To feel the hate I always feel radiated

Towards me make me want to hide,

To put another layer, another shield.

No one will ever see the real me, I

Am a coward who hides who she is

And I will never be more than a

Person in a masque.
