Sticks On The Road

Forward facing, so forgetful, children, here
This gate's kept closed for reasons yet unknown
Flower gardens and your father's favorite vineyard
Hidden in a knothole on the old oak tree

Drape your enveloping love o'er me, dear
Feign a smile if you please
Remember when the girl that past
Cast an apple over yonder, there, and laughed
Do you recall?

Circle stones arranged just so
The path a mere suggestion
We float on by like butterflies
Unsure of our intentions

Backward facing, full of fog and mystery
That gate's kept closed for reasons yet unknown
Flower gardens and your father's apple tree
We'll hide behind the weeds and call it home

Drape your enveloping love o'er me, dear
Feign a smile if you please
Remember when we sat and watched the cars that passed
Made a promise to each other there, and laughed
Sticks piled high at the end of the road
Three miles high for all to see
Do you recall?
